LIL MIS' MAGIC 12-09-2007 11:17 AM

I have found that most Ross stores do not allow me to bring in my stroller with my pups.....even if they are in a strip center that every other store allows us to enter & shop. Yet I have never seen a sign against pets.....usually someone is watching the door.

I am sorry this happened to you......and is one of the reason I do not take my pups out with me much anymore - especially at the holiday season. My most recent issue with being asked to leave was at a JC Penney store (a stand alone store - not in a mall or strip center).......and we had taken Magic with us on a regular basis until about a month ago when they asked us to leave.

nailcorner 12-09-2007 10:10 PM

There was no reason for them to be rude to you, but I know here in Utah NO pets of any kind unless they are a service animal are allowed in any public building. I have a small nail salon attached to my home and I am not required to have it posted, but it is against state law to even have my dogs in there. Most of my clients want to see my babies every visit....so I have to lock my door while they are in there visiting. I never have them in there if a client is new because I never know if they might turn me in and I was told it is a mega fine.

because of this discussion, i would like to see how many of yorkie's owners go shopping with their babies. I would like to see %%%%%, not just answers.... .

I will appreciate it very much if any of you can do this for me.

I would like to see following options:

- I love my yorkie, but never take her/him with me to shopping. Dog is a dog, and should't be in any stores.
- I take my yorkie everywhere with me, even hide sometimes if pets are not allowed. My dog in stroller/carrier inside.
- I take my dog only to those stores where dogs allowed.

any more options? let's make a POLL :D ;)

I made a poll for you (my very first one!) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=106933

erino77 12-09-2007 10:49 PM

So this may be a really stupid question, but what is a Ross store? Is it like a clearance store, or a discount store or a returns/overstock kind of store? I guess boring ole Ohio doesn't have any, lol!
Off to take the poll :)

mizzwanned 12-09-2007 11:08 PM

I've never heard of the Ross store or been in it but I'm sorry they were rude to you. That sucks:( If you had her in a stroller they shouldn't have been so mean. I take mine sometimes into stores and if they don't have a sign that says no pets i take that chance. The only place i know for sure that doesn't allow pets is costco, and i think Target.

Mountainwoman 12-10-2007 06:41 AM

Hmmmm... I would contact Ross corporate for the policy on pets. It could be that during the holiday season they are afraid of shoplifters putting goods in the stroller when no one is looking - who knows? But if that is the case, they should have a sign posted. Some places make you leave backpacks when you go in - they could do that with the stroller. Of course they don't make people with children do that.
I was at Dillards on Saturday, and there was a woman with a little dog. No one said anything to her. I would change stores, and boycott Ross.:animal-pa

Mountainwoman 12-10-2007 06:43 AM

Ross is a discount department store. They sell clothes, jewelry, and a variety of other things. I believe they are a publically held company, and are on the stock exchange.

omichka 12-10-2007 07:22 AM

Ross is OFF PRICE chain store retailer. It is not a typical discount store. Ross' buyers buy their inventory that usually
- overstock
- not so popular/what main stores like Macys refused to buy....
- discounted for some reason

Last time I bought Banana Republic ABSOLUTELY NEW/NO damaged top for.. 0.45 cents:eek: . BUT. Most of clothes there is junk, sorry. IMXO, of course. I go to Ross to buy some kichen/house staff (save a lot of money)

It is funny because I am in retail business for years myself:D . Btw, MY customers with pets were always WELCOME to my store when I had one.

Thanks again or all responses :) and a special thank you for POLL:thumbup: :)

However, I think this is a typical for stores like Ross:mad: . They have way too many complaints and nothing change....:(

our ross isnt like this. NOw its not the cleanest store but the ross here doesnt have security guards and stuff. Not sure if dogs are aloud tho.

Doodlebug 12-10-2007 07:56 AM

I agree with you, I hate bad customer service. I think it was wrong of that guy to watch your husband drive away and then refuse you into the store. I would call the store manager and complain or go on line and make a formal complaint about how you were treated.

I have never heard of Ross stores either. But I never take my dogs into a store other than a pet store. I just assume that they are not allowed. Once I took them in Hobby Lobby but I felt funny because I have never seen anyone else the stores with a dog. No one asked me to leave but the store personnel ignored me and the dogs. I felt like they didn't like it but they didn't want to tell me to leave. I got the same thing in a hardware store once. After that I quit taking them in stores. I also went to an outdoor flea market that had a sign that stated NO DOGS ALLOWED INCLUDING DOGS IN STROLLERS. That was OUTSIDE! I think the reasoning is that if you let small dogs in, you have to let big dogs in too to be fair and the store does not want the liability of a dog bite or damage to merchandise. Also some customers might be allegic to dogs.

omichka 12-10-2007 11:10 AM

do you want update? :D

I had a hard time to reach corporate office, and called directly to the phone # that I mentioned before.

I think I will pass this matter. I feel like I humiliate myself by trying to make a complains to those type of people

Why do I have to be like same idiot as they are? :D

I was explaining situation. Yes, he told me that dogs are not allowed to the store. I said that's fine, however you should have a sign.

But I have a complain about customer service and the way how manager and security treated me and my hubby.

1. No sorry at all.
2. No questions about name/who did that/whatever.
3. On my question about how they punish employes, who make fun of their customers, he.....hang up the phone.

PERIOD.

PLEASE, don't think I was speaking like a crazy psycho, trust me:D . I was not.

It just "a high professional" service:thumbdown .

Tammyh 12-10-2007 11:17 AM

That was extremely rude and unacceptable. I would give a written complaint to the Manager and cc it to their corporate office. I'm sure if you go on line you can get the information from their corporate site. A verbal complaint won't get you very far but a written one will make an impact. Then, I would never shop in that particular store again and possibly boycott all of the Ross stores if you don't get an acceptable response from corporate. Good luck!

Unfortunately, I think this is becoming the norm rather than the exception at a lot of places. I have noticed that a lot of employees working for a store could care less about customers. I have had this exact same kind of treatment when making a legit complaint. I usually just quit shopping there. I hope someone will listen to you and apologize, but I really don't expect it to happen. Sorry this happened to you.

I've taken Lacy to Hobby Lobby several times in College Station. I take her to JoAnn's here too and they all just love her there. I don't know if I've ever taken her in a Ross store...probably but I can't remember for sure.

That is so cool! I'm envious! I have a friend in PA who takes her Bichon in just about every store and they love her. I guess is depends on where you live. No one around here takes their dogs in stores but I sure would like to. I would get too upset and embarassed about being thrown out to try it. You can tell by the atmosphere that pets would not be well received around here.

Sandysbabies 12-10-2007 12:52 PM

It seems like nowdays people are getting more and more rude. I haven't attempted to take Kayla in a store yet, I probably would really be kicked out. She is a little barker and thats at everything that moves. I do have a friend that takes her yorkie just about everywhere. She has actually took her to a dentist appointment. I do think the way they acted was uncalled for and I don't think I would be going back there, for sure. Sorry it happened to ya!!

GinosMommy 12-11-2007 11:38 AM

the only places i have taken my bichon in is my professional beauty suppply store...Gino has come to Joanns, TJMaxx, and they saw me with the carrier walking in Target and asked me to leave. :(

I understand that there are rules but there is a right way and a wrong way to address customers. I can not think of any reason not to let a dog in a store if it is in a stroller and zipped up, not reason at all. I think that it should be allowed if it is zipped up, the only problem they should have anyway is if it bit someone or pottied on the floor, and it can't do that if it is in a stroller. They handled the situation wrong plain and simple. I have never been in a Ross store and from what I hear I have no desire to either.

What about allergies, say someone brings in a pom or another small dog that sheds...the store is then liable for any medical attention that person needs. Then there is the problem of letting a small dog in and not a large dog...discrimination. There are a lot of legal ramifications that could be incurred.

I do see your point, and I do take my fur kids where I can out here myself, but there are a lot of valid reasons for it...then what if someone crosses the line and takes the dog into a grocery store?

OP~so sorry that they even treated you horribly on the phone...Ross never has had great customer service & I think it is horrible that the security did that knowing you were going in there!
