what do you think???? I was just thinking for those of you who care:) .How hard do you think it is to get a true silk coated yorkie with the short coby body as a pet from a breeder:rolleyes: .All I keep seeing is modified coats and cotton coats. while I think they all are pretty, I personally only want a true silk with the short body and not worrying about having a dashund looking yorkie when they are done growing:aimeeyork .how many of you agree? and breeders can you tell before they are placed:( ? and do you tell them:mad: ???? I don't like it when a person has a modified and thinks its silk because its definately not cotton.how could the breeder mislead them like that? :animal-pa |
long dogs I just placed 3 dogs... and of those three I have a short one, a med. length one and a long daush. looking one... crazy... but I couldn't have told that the long one was going to be long. But I am sure some can. |
I got Pixie from a big name breeder and she was 13 months old. She has a true silk coat, never mats, stick straight and silky. I found the only way I could get exactly what I wanted was to get an older one. Pixie has the short body but her legs are just a little long. She weighed 3 1/4 lbs. She is exactly what I wanted!!! I probably will only get an older puppy from now on. |
My Daughters new babie is almost 9 mths and his coat is silky, very staright and easy to manage, I gave him a bath over the weekend and could not beleive how nice it was, he dryed with in mins, All my babies have the cotton and its alot of work to keep up with. |
coats It is really quite easy..buy from a buyer who uses silk coated stock..and good conformation...and better yet..a breeder who has several generations of good standard type to show you from the line. |
I am just curious, so don't take it the wrong way, but I was wondering why you want a long cobby Yorkie? I just bought a puppy and she is probably going to be cobby and silky coated, but it's way too early to tell for sure. I think of cobby as almost square-like. I'm really interested in what you think, just because I'm interested in Yorkies in general. Thanks. |

I think it's easier when you get an older one, because then you know what you're getting into. |
Of course it's possible if you buy from a reputable breeder that shows their dogs in conformation and knows their lines. The problem with most "pet quality" breeders is that they are breeding dogs with less than perfect coats so the puppies will of course not have a proper coat either. Also, I didn't think yorkies were supposed to have "cobby" bodies  Cobby makes me think of my persian cats - big boned, broad shoulders, compact bodies. When I look at most show yorkies, they seem to have a good amount of length to their legs. |

My Mia is a cotton coat and my Max is probably a modified. And at 8 months old his coat is still changing. |

"This Time U Belong To Me" - I think Lee calls her Marti - after Dean Martin :) She was cut down when I saw her, but I don't think she has a cotton coat. |

I think what you're seeing on Max is still his puppy coat, from what I saw of his last pictures, looks very silk. |

Really? Darn, I wish I had gotten a picture of her when I was there. I know he looks like he's silky but that only lasts about 10 minutes after his bath! After that it's dull and sticking straight out like he put his paw in the light socket! :grin2: We call him our "Wild Child". I tried that Emu oil and it helped Mia's hair but didn't really do that much for Max's. |

General Appearance That of a long-haired toy terrier whose blue and tan coat is parted on the face and from the base of the skull to the end of the tail and hangs evenly and quite straight down each side of body. The body is neat, compact and well proportioned. The dog's high head carriage and confident manner should give the appearance of vigor and self-importance. Body Well proportioned and very compact. The back is rather short, the back line level, with height at shoulder the same as at the rump. |

Years ago....they were much shorter leg than what is being produced now. I think compact would be more correct. If you go to the Show Section/ don't know the title of the thread but, Tegamom1 started it....you'll see a pic of my Tahlulah and Charmer.....this is my preferance in what I'm looking for. By the way, other than structure, I'm a head hunter.....love those beautiful heads with alot of expression, along with attitude. |

Is that new? I don't recall seeing that one on their site. I'll check it out. Thanks Mary! |
thank you all I love the shorter legs with a shorter body dark blue coat and silk.I have two a boy who has a light tan face and light silver body he is modified and the girl is black and deep gold I think she is silk I love her coat. she has a short body a little more leg but very even and petite. I like the light face or deep gold but the body has to be deep blue for my last one. |
My 17 week old one has a silky coat, her legs are so so..they were shorter, but have gotten a little longer, to where her brother(my son and his fiance have him), has the short legs, and is shorter also in length, but also has the silky coat |
I am just wary! I know you all are right and I respect the breeders who have responded:thumbup: but I took in a old dog that was not well cared for and I bought a boy from an old couple that just wanted him to have a good home and he only had one testicle:( I want my next girl just so. I have spoken with a breeder peggy horner and she seems knowledgeable and willing to talk to me at length about all my concerns. I am in no hurry for the girl but I am keeping an eye out I would really prefer her to be older and spayed but......... not to mention I have pups I need to place. NOW DO NOT GO CRAZY ON ME!!! I tried to keep them apart and she was checked by a vet and he said she was to old to be fertile and did not recommend spaying her and she was not preg/another said she wasn't pregnant also.now my boy was rescheduled for neutering because the one testicle that did come down was too small I was told to wait till he matured and boy did it grow. he was neutered right after I suspected they got together. and the pups are now 10 1/2 weeks three boys 1 girl and all the boys have both their testicles.they are not registered as I got no papers with mom as I was not planning to breed. VENT IF YOU MUST I CAN TAKE IT AND I HAVE ALREADY SMACKED MYSELF |
