The emergency vet is the one that told me the new formula is only 3% more digestible than the original formula. You can even check this out with Greenies. I am putting this warning out as I don't want anyone to lose their precious babies, as I lost mine. I was holding my precious Chili and she died in my arms choking in front of my children. There was nothing I could do as the Greenie was lodged way down in the esophagus. None of the Dr is my area felt comfortable trying to use a scope on her. I was giving her a shot daily from the Vet to relax her esophagus and waiting for a "specialist" to get back to us. The specialist called the day after she died. This darn thing was lodged in her esophagus for a week. There was enough space for her to drink and eat.... until it dislodged and killed her. So much for dissolving. Are clean teeth worth death? I think not!!! For clean teeth I feed raw bones, much, much safer and does wonders for the teeth. |
Oh MY!! :eek: That sucks. I never gove Daisy any of that anyway. We do bully sticks and nyla bones [which I keep an eye on when it starts breaking apart]. Thanks for sharing! |
What a tragedy. I have read over and over the danger's of greenies. I have never purchased them and never will. Sorry about your precious baby. |

so are a lot of other dog treats..If you read what the people that make the greenies say, it says not to give to dogs under 6 mos. or 5 lbs. They do have lil bites that you can give smaller ones...Dogs can also choke on meat that we give them..Not all dogs should have greenies or some of the other treats that people give them everyday..I know greenies are very controversial, but, myself, I still feel they are better for them than a lot of the other things people are giving their dogs.. |
My German Shepherd had to have surgery due to Greenies. New forumula or not is isn't worth the risk for me, especially when there are so many other options. |
if you read the small print their isnt anything to worry about. |
I purchased greenies for Rockies when he was 2 months old. When I discovered yt and started reading all the negative information on greenies they went into the trash. :thumbdown |
I have a german shepherd too...I give her and the golden retriever some beef roast broken up in pieces once in a great while..the german shepherd started choking on a piece of meat..so, meats, and a lot of other things can be dangerous..it depends a lot on how your dogs eat certain things, if they eat like there is no tomorrow, then NO, greenies probably aren't good for them, nor are a lot of other things, if they know how to sit and chew it normal, than I don't think it's going to hurt them...My inside dogs all lay on the floor and take their time eating them |

:confused: I just don't understand why the stores are still carrying these death dealers! You would think that with all of the reports of pets choking to death on them, they would take them off their shelves. I guess it's the lure of the almighty dollar.:mad: |
