I'm *this* close to a no-bark collar! Zoie barks incessantly at night. As soon as it gets dark she stands by the door and wants to go bark at the fence, patio umbrella, kids toys that are out of place (she's anal). So, we let her in and she whines to go out, or we put her in her cage and she barks and whines. I've tried tapping on metal with metal, I tried the can full of coins. The coins just made her mad!!! Then she wanted to chew the can up cause she was mad at it. I get the kids in bed and can't even enjoy a night cause she's ruining it. |
I'm so sorry to read this........have you tried talking to a dog trainer for any other 'posible' resources. Hope someone will point you in the right direction soon! |
I had started a thread 2 weeks ago about what I did to get Lucy to stop barking. I had tried everything, even a no-bark collar while in the pet store. The collar did not work. But I found something that worked. It took me one year of barking to figure this out. When she was barking I pick up a magazine and hit it really hard on the table. The noise scared her so much she stopped barking and froze. She was not afraid of other noises like coins in a can, or spray bottles or anything else. She tried to bark again after a little while and I did it again. She stopped barking and froze again. Now I carry a magazine in my purse, in the car, and on walks to remind her. It has been almost 2 weeks and she is still not barking. And, she is also better behaved. She has become an angel. Let me know if it works for you. I was surprised only two people read my thread when I know that many people have this problem. I wanted others to try this to see if it works for everone or if it just work for me. Let me know. Make sure you hit the table really hard. |
What good advice!!!!!!!! I forgot my poodle used to be afraid of newspaper used the same way. My groomer/breeder at the time used it to keep him still while she groomed him and it worked everytime and he was a jewel for her. I will try it, but I am getting a BARK BUSTER's trainer to come to my house on Saturday!!!!! I'm so excited I can't stand it!!!! I look forward to some peaceful evenings. |
Let me know how it works. I would be interested in what the bark buster has to say. I also had an expert come to my house to stop the barking. It cost me $150.00 per hour. They gave me a bean bag to throw on the floor when she barks and a small spray bottle of citronella to spray in her face. They thought that was that. Well it was not. The $2.00 magazine (or newspaper)worked better. Let me know. |
Also, coins in a can! It is like a miracle. I swear after two yrs of barking when I left in the am or anytime I went through the same thing. One shake of the coins in the can, that is all it took and walah no more "BARKING":D All I have to do is show him the can and instant behavior. Good luck. |
We brought sophie a no barking collar and it took one sap and that all she needed. She hardly ever barks now and if she does we say "no bark" and show her the collar. It was well worth the $45. I tried the newpaper and the coins and it did not work. good luck |
It sounds like maybe everyone has to find the thing their dog hates the most. I think I would have been ahead just to know this. I had given up and I was not able to take her everywhere I went. I was worried she might bark. Now she is a great little girl. Let us know what the trainer tells you. |
Buddy loves to bark!! I am soooo glad I found these ideas--thanks so much everybody! Buddy gets barking and it is so loud! I'll have to try the newspaper on the table idea--sure hope it works. He is a fantastic watchdog, but sometimes he just loves to hear himself talk and talk and talk....:animal36 |
I tried the newspaper on the table to stop the barking Well, I tried slamming a newspaper very hard down on the coffee table to stop Buddy from barking & he stopped momentarily & then started barking louder! It made him really mad! I did it again & he kept it up---The citronella spray in the face seems kinda mean, so I don't want to do that, but I'm open to any other ideas... Thanks:animal-pa |

Buddy the barking YT! It's funny you said that about closing the drapes---we have all these beautiful windows, but we keep them closed 24/7 so that Buddy the barker will be quiet (sort of). If we leave the drapes & blinds open, he barks and barks and....he LOVES to talk!!:animal36 |
