Doesn't like eating food in his bowl?
Does anyone else have this problem?
My Yorkie is about 6 months old and wasn't eating food out of his bowl. I have to swirl my finger in it, and then sometimes he will pick out the food piece by piece and take them somewhere else to eat it. One time he even barked at the little dog bowl.
The only way to get him to eat all his kibble is if I lay it out on the floor for him, or have him eat it from my hand.
I currently wet his dry food to make it a little softer, since he is losing his teeth at this teething stage and the food is hard to eat. He seems to like having his food softer... but doesn't seem to like his [very normal and harmless] bowl.

When my guy was teething I started to break his kibble down with a meat cleaver to make it easier for him (tip I learned on YT). I feed a special soft I/D food from the vet and kibble = parts. He started taking the kibble to an area rug to eat it then back to the bowl. Back and forth, back and forth. I finally put a kitchen towel under his bowls and he hasn't done it since. It must be something he didn't like about our tiled floor. Picky litte guy!

My Max (1 yr old) will not eat his food out of the bowl either! We have to put it on a rag or blanket on the floor for him to eat. If it is in his bowl, he will bark and fuss until you pour it out and put it on the rag!! Gotta love his quirky way!

Ziva would never eat out of a bowl, I use small side dishes for her food, very neat and polite! Abby on the other hand dives right in- I use small china rice bowls for her kibble.

Brew is a floor eater as well.
i have purchased a stainless steel bowl set (1st), plastic (2nd), then tried a nice ceramic dog bowl for a 3rd choice
and STILL.....he no likey bowls
really, i feel like as long as he is eating the good quality kibble i want him to eat without adding any toppers (other then the grizzly omega oil with dinner) i'm still winning. (and he still THINKS he's winning)
i don't want him to fear eating ever. it should be a happy low-stressfull time for us.
i have decieded to pick my battles with this one....now lets see if i can get him to stop rolling his favorite ball under our couch...
the one thing i will say is that if you do just let them eat off the floor to make sure you aren't cleaning the floor where he eats with any chemicals. i just wipe the floor down with a wet towel in his pen every once in a while. (and am on the lookout for the perfect food mat)

omg i was embaressed because i thought i was the only one with a dog who eats on a blanket, she was terrified of her bowl fr day one, would grab kibble and run off with it, so i switched to a saucer, she barley ate off of there, she was so tiny and young and i knew alot of health problems fr yorkies not eating enough when they are young, so i caved and hand fed her kibble, this became too time consuming after a while and i ended up just puring it on a blankie for her out of concern she want eating out of her dish...well now shes a little piggy and will clean those kibble on the blankie, i tryed putting the bowl of food on the blankie, again she wouldnt eat.. she wont eat out of bowel i hoped if she got hunger enough she would but nope.. i don't know how to get her too either..

Ha, that's funny. My 11 year old yorkie girl, Teagan, removes one kibble from her bowl and carries it out to the dining room carpet each mealtime. She will eat the rest from the bowl, then go eat the piece she carried out last. Super weird, but endearing. She also frantically scratches the floor in front of her bowl before she eats, as though she's "digging up" her kibbles.
