| yorkie has pulled a 180 on us Our baby Snickers is about to put me in a mental institution. LOL She is only 10.5 weeks old and that might be the main issue here. lol...the last 2 days she has produced some very odd behavior. here is a little background: we had been having some serious back and forth issues with her as far as potty training. she started out doing great on the potty pads and then last week she started sometimes using the pads and sometimes peeing elsewhere in the house(she would always pee outside). beginning of this week she started fighting using the pads at all, in fact most times if you try to put her on a pad she will just stand there and look at you . But she would still pee elsewhere in the house.......then like a miracle Tuesday and Wednesday she did not have a single accident in the house and everytime we took her out she would pee and poop(when she needed to) with no issues whatsoever. Then I made the mistake of saying to my wife.."Wow, she is really doing good with this" ...Since that minute practically she has become very very very stubborn. She isn't really having many accidents in the house, but when we take her outside she fights everything from the second we put her down to walk. She will not walk, we have to "drag" her along(we use a harness so it is not truly dragging)..she will only walk freely when she knows we are heading back towards our apt.....she still pees outside with little issue, but she more or less refuses to poop....in fact at times she will squat to poop, then it seems like she realizes what she is doing and just lays down or sits instead and just stares at us......it is very confusing as we always praise her for peeing and poopies outdoors or using a pad. Another odd thing she did yesterday was when I was drying her off(it was sprinkling outside) she pretty mcuh went a little insane ont he handtowel and made some evil noises we never heard from her previously. lol Needless to say we are at a loss as to what to do. |

| update after Snickers had a full breakfast this morning she still refused to poop...so on our vet's recommendation we put her in her cage..took her back out after a while and walked her and again she was difficult to walk and refused to poop. We are now feeding her lunch....i just wish i knew what changed to make her behave differently. |

| When walking your baby outside, I would recommend a harness. Yorkies are proned to getting collapsed tracheas and a collar might injure her trachea. Hope this is the answer you are looking for. I know a lot of YTers use collars at all times for identification purposes, but don't hook a leash to it because of CT. Wish I could be of some help about the potty problem. I'm sure someone will come along later and will be able to help you.

For potty training, keep in mind that your pup is very young and isn't fully physically developed. Some people have successfully trained their pups to pee and poop on command, but not every dog is able to do this. Just give her ample opportunity to potty in the correct place. She will eventually get onto a schedule, but she may never be able to do it on command. Again, she is very young, be patient but consistent. You are already ahead in potty training. For leash walking (with a harness!), try having one person hold the leash and another person stand 10 -15 feet ahead and entice your pup to them. When she moves forward, even one step, praise her and encourage her to do more. Praise profusely for good potty too.

| One other note, be careful going out walking because your pup has not had all her vaccinations. Many people recommend not going outside at all.

Actually before this week that was more or less the only way she would walk willingly was if my son was ahead of us on his scooter or with his basketball and she would basically follow him....but now she won't even do that any longer.

| I'd also like to add...relax. You are expecting too much too soon from your lil' one. Again, only a "harness" & never, never a collar for the risk of damage to your puppies neck & Collapsed Trachea. You are also trying to walk a puppy which is like expecting a toddler just learning to walk to endure a whole day at Disneyland on foot. Slow and easy...and don't forget the risk to your puppy before she is fully vaccinated and protected from the harm that could be out there on lawns, puddles, etc. As for potty-training...this can take a LONG time with Yorkies as they can be stubborn but, for a puppy it's all new stuff to learn. I would not allow your puppy to have full reign of the house and maybe cordone off a section with a x-pen that has piddle pads on one side and a bed and toys on the other...differentiating what goes where...lol Anyway, I was going to suggest that immediately after feedings, you should make a routine of taking your puppy outside to potty. This is a great way to teach pooping outside. Congrat's on your puppy!

Your baby sounds exactly like our Abby did at that young age! We've been told that she is extremely smart and plays us. Today at age 3 we spell everything that pertains to her and sometimes she still knows what we're talking about. Good luck you've got a very smart yorkie
