Default Is Potty Training an Adult Yorkie Possible?

I purchased a pair of 4 yo girl, about 6 months ago. I was told theywere house broken. Clearly, at least one is not. I am not sure which one, or if it both of them. I spoke to the woman I bought them from, she swears that "you just have to watch them".
I am convinced that they were/are not. Unless they are "marking", if thats the case, are they smelling something I can't... what do I use to eliminate the smells... I have carpet, and hardwood!?
Any suggestions? I have p-pads down for them.
HELP.... They are driving me crazy, and they are so-o sweet, otherwise!

I adopted a 2 year old male last year and at first he had a few accidents. At the time I didn't know about puddle pads. I had a tarp down in the hallway that he was gated in when I'm at work and he would pee on that. I would clean it every nite. He would hold it all nite but as soon as his feet hit the floor in the morning he would race to the tarp. I soon started just getting up and going straight out the back door. He now races me for it every morning. Same thing at nite when I get home from work. The race to the back door as soon as I open his gate. I do have pads down now so that if he can't wait he uses that. But I still take him straight outside. We also walk every morning and evening. That seemed to be his elimination walk. I always carried a plastic bag and as soon as he went he got a treat and lots of praise. No more treats now but still the same routine otherwise. It's very hard to catch his signal for the door. He kinda just makes a quick circle in the general direction of the door. If I see him... out we go. Otherwise he uses the pads. I guess it really comes down to routine and being consistent. I know every dog is different but they all can learn. We just need to be good teachers.

Thanks.
There is no consistency to where or when they pee, and they don't use the pad!
I get up, and put them straight out at 6am. and again before I go to work, and right after work. Sometimes they come in from outside, and someone pee's then! I check to see who is "wet" but they have just come in, so they are BOTH wet!
I am a stickler for routine, and in 6 months, they should have figured it out!
They don't walk on a leash, so they are in a fenced yard.

ok to work an older dog go with treats in hand on a leash eve ninto the yard for the first little while and catch them going pee and reward I do it really calm as tehy are older and toss less of a party but I toss one non the less if they get it right.

the going with is important as you are no pun intened johny on the spot and able to reward right at the right time.
oh where in Candad are you?? yu being nosey chunk here too.

Maybe by watching them she means knowing when and how often to take them outside. My dog won't alert me when he has to go, but he will hold it until I take him out. So try taking them out a little more often and see if that helps. If not, then you might have to start from scratch.

my dog didn't get trained until she was over 1 year; she had accidents constantly, eventhough i had pee pads in 2 different rooms. finally we moved to a new apartment and then i decided to keep the pad in the bathroom; and then i started taking her there every few hrs to pee; sometimes she peeded sometimes she didnt have to. however, she did learn that this is the place to go pee or poo. she goes poo by herself there and sometimes pee by herself; however if she hasnt peed in few hrs i still take here there myself to make sure no accidents happen.

Your gonna have to take Natures Miracle to the carpet or they will continue to go there. You can get it at Petsmart. I would start all over with potty training like you brought home two young pups. Confine when you cant watch them some people like to use a crate I used an xpen. Take them out every 2-3 hrs. When they go make a big deal and give them a treat. It will just take consistency but I think you can get them potty trained

I trained Thor when he was two. Well, mostly trained.

It's just like training a puppy, except they can hold it longer. Pick a method, be it a crate, xpen, or keep them leashed to you. Put their feeding on a schedule, take them out on a schedule, give great treats and praise for successful potties, try as hard as you can to catch them before a mis-potty. Don't punish after the fact, and get some Nature's Miracle. It can be done!

to get rid of the smells from accidents some people with lots of money to spend will tell you to buy that "natures miracle" stuff from the expensive stores.. dont fall for that crap because its NOT worth the money your spending. believe me ive used it, and used a whole jug and it hardly helped. anyways, i am CRAZY about keeping my house clean and fresh, some might say i have OCD. I like to use home made remedies because of my 1 year old getting into everything, not to mention you SAVE MONEY!! so if you mix water and VINEGAR (yes vinegar) (they say 1/2 and 1/2 but i like to use more vinegar than water to really clean up the smell) blot up as much of the pee as you can out of the carpet, then spray your mixture generously to the effected spot, make sure you spray enough to get down where the pee has soaked in at the bottom of the carpet. them blot that all up. IT REALLY WORKS! not only does it clean the spot - the dog cant smell the pee was there before and wont go there again, because if they smell it somewhere THEY WILL PEE THERE AGAIN!! your area might smell like vinegar for about 5 minutes but it WILL go away and is definitely MUCH better than the smell of old piss. and it is my opinion to definitely dont keep those pee pad things for long because the dog is only learning its okay to pee inside the house. move the pee pad to the door and move it more and more closer to outside every day. keep up with bringing them outside as soon as they come out of theyre crate and after EVERY nap, and you shall prevail. My Jerry is only 6 months and totally potty trained to go outside. since you have a fenced in yard it should be a little less stressful for you to get them out.

My youngest was NO problem to train, I got him at 9wks, and he used the pads (cuz it was very cold here), and I just took them with me where ever I went, he was good, now he goes outside, and on our walks, but he still uses the pad, and even squats, when I bring him to work. At 10 months he hardly even has an oop's! But is usually a poop.

I got Pixie at 13 months and she was in runs at the breeders house with newspaper down.
At the time I had Cali going on pee pads and my pom went outside. Pixie did not take to the pads at all. She was very difficult to train as I got her in January in Chicago and wouldn't use the pads. One day she started going outside and 2 1/2 years later she still use the bathroom rug sometimes and other times goes outside. I found with Cali and Roxie getting then as puppies it was much easier to train.
