Are they going in the house, or just holding it until it stops raining?

I've heard good things about those potty patches. If it were me, I would combine that with some kind of confinement. For example, set up an Xpen that is big enough for your dogs' bed on one side and the potty patch on the other. I'd keep them in the pen until they eliminate in the potty patch.

Default Training and Potty habits

Hello. I am new to the forum and a new Yorkie mom. I have gotten many tips on the training issues, but have a question about my male yorkie. I am ready to have him neutered as he is 8 mos old. He is pee pad trained but not potty trained yet. Ive tried to have him on a schedule and no matter how often I took him out, he had no clue he was to potty outside. Its raining a lot now (I live in the no west) so he wont go when its raining. I hope having him fixed will help also. He is now lifting his leg instead of squatting. Does anyone know if he will stop this when he is neutered? I do have to have him on a leash until playtime to contain him to the pads and put him in his pen at night. It is confining but dont want my home ruined while he is still being trained. Also, I wonder how to transfer him from pee pads to outdoors totally? They are definately way harder to train than larger breeds. Thanks for any helpful input!

I have a porch potty on my balcony for those heave rainstorm days. It's quite useful! The only downside is that I have to empty the pee bucket into the toilet because I can't exactly pour pee onto the street.

If you live in a home...it's definitely worth it, because you could have it in a covered area and just hose it down. If you need to empty the container, **huge tip** I found that adding vinegar to the water that you use to 'rinse out' the spots they pee on makes the bucket of pee not smell. Otherwise, the stink is quite unbearable.

This is them using it for the first time:

Hi Debi, if your area has dogs, they will generally like to pee in the same pee-smelling areas. If there aren't (lucky you!), then I'd take some of the pee from your baby and pour/rub it in an area outside that you want him to pee at.

Neutering him may or may not resolve the leg hiking thing. If he continues to hike the leg, it's just a part of him you'll learn to accept and love.

Once he potties outdoors and you give him the "goooooood boy!!!!" a few times, he'll know going outdoors is a good thing. I've found they like going outside more. It's just in their nature. I have a potty pad for Casie who can't hold her pee as long as Scottie can, so she uses both. It sounds like you're on the right path though (good job with keeping him on a leash and scheduling his potty time!!).

Default Potty training solved

Wow Thank you so much for posting the video of your outdoor porch potty. That works great! I'm definately going to try the astroturf potty 👍 Also thank you for your response and tips. I know I'll be tempted to get Cody a friend....they are so adorable! 🤗

No problemo at all!

You can never have just one! Haha... but don't be fooled that after potty training one (like I was), to think that you know exactly how to train the second. Apparently, they're all different. lol

How big is it? If it’s to big they will do that.

Default house broken but now peeing in house

Has anyone had a problem where their pup is house trained but suddenly starts peeing in house. My 4 year old pup has pee pads in the bathroom and goes on two long walks a day, and has been amazing with no accidents since 12 weeks of age. Suddenly, he peed on my husband's jacket on the bed, peed on pillows on my couch, my husband's boots on the floor, and more. The floor is new so at first I thought it was that, but the jacket on the bed was not and not all the pillows were new. I am ruling out bladder infection just because he can go when he wants on his potty pads. Any ideas? Going crazy stepping in pee in my socks or sitting in it.

Hi, my first post! I just need a little moral support in the house training department. New YORKIE OWNER of puppy. 3 weeks in......not sure how much progress we’re makimg. Of course I’ve researched a lot. Bought the seven day book yesterday. Just feeling a little defeated and hoping my baby Gracie doesn’t feel the same way

The key is confinement when you can't watch them & consistency. Like, clockwork consistency. Setting yourself an alarm if you need to. Buy the book "How to housebreak your dog in 7 days by Shirlee Kalstone." This book worked miracles for us.

If you can't afford to buy the book, a Vet has made a .pdf file of the schedule from this book that you should follow. The key is to tweak it to fit your dog's schedule once you figure out their body's natural rhythm. Then, STICK to it. This has worked wonders for us. Please look this over if you're having potty training issues. It's very highly rated & even recommended by trainers. If you can, definitely buy the book. It's only a couple of bucks and it's packed with good information. It's also a very quick read.

Hope this helps & good luck!!
Thank you!!!

Default Pee in the house

My jojo is 7 and has started peeing in spots when i leave. He usually hits the coffee table leg or chair leg. So i bought some belly bands from chewy.com and he wears that. Today i didnt put it on and he made 3 pee spots. Very frustrating!
