about Yorkies and rats :-) Hi my Yorkie likes to play with a rat toy :-) generally there is a connection between rats and Yorkies, cause Yorkies were breeded to be rat hunters in the past :-) Everything about Yorkies - Yorkshire Terriers Naturally |
yup this is very true. My three got a hold of a lil mouse the other day who was trying to sneek in as the cold weather is upon us. dead is what they did with is. not sure which did the dead but they all babysat till daddy saw what was going on. |
Yeah, it's hard to believe that our pampered pets started out as ratters, but that's what they were originally bred for. |
Very very true.! |
Mice and Yorkies The mice at my house are safe even with all my yorkies. Had two yorkies sitting beside me and a little mouse ran out from under our sofa. The mouse stopped, looked at us, and just sat there. Both yorkies were looking at me as if to say, "are you going to get it Mom?" They had no idea what to do. Had a friend's yorkie do the same thing at her house. Our babies are sooooo spoiled. |
Tibbe likes anything that he can "kill" in the way of toys. He LOVES his toy squirrels and little fake animals - even has a toy mouse cat toy - most with squeakers inside. He'll bite them where the squeakers are just as if he's made a real catch and then he shakes them so viciously it's amazing to see. No doubt it goes back to his ratter heritage in the old country where his ancestors served their people well by keeping their homes, barns, sheds, mills and work-places swept for vermin every chance they got. Terriers really are little killers at heart. |
That's so funny! It's fun to watch Zoey catch the scent of a squirrel , she gets so excited she just shakes! But really tracks it down to the tree it's in! My last yorke I remember when she growls "rrrrr. Rrrr. Rrrrrr " then ( with something in her mouth tugging at it usually) sounds like she was saying " rrrr Rrrrriver rrrrrat!" Soo funny ....so the phrase river rat kinda stuck with me...river rat... |

My little Buffy thought she was so fierce. I remember her trying to dispose of her river rats too. Hehe |
Gizmo will chase and bark at any small animal. He shakes his toys and loves to make them squeak real loud. We have a lot of birds that like to land in our back yard or sit on our cinder block wall. He will sit and bark and bark and if they land on the ground I have never seen a dog move as fast as when he chases them off. So funny how the hunting instinct sticks with some of them. |
:eek:I could not imagine have mice in my house, unless they were rubber or stuffed. |

Haha:) It's amazing that we humans are scared of things that are sooo much smaller than we are. I am terrified of spiders! If I see one, I, and no one else even though I appreciate the offer, have to get a glass (must see the spider at ALL times), then get a piece of stiff paper and slide it under the glass, then take it outside and watch where it goes; preferably away from the house. Some would kill it, but for me I can't do this as I don't like the 'crunch' sound of doing so. I also can't flush it. Of course, having said that, I would not have a problem flushing if it was a poisonous one. What we humans do for such a small thing:) |
