| I want to take mine with me too! I found a basket that attaches to my cruiser. I worry about safety though, if I fell or got a flat.. etc. |

| I bike everyday, almost everywhere, even in the winter! I live in a major city, Berlin, Germany, to be exact, where bike riding is not just for exercise, but a major form of transportation for many residents, including myself. I originally bought a bike basket for my Hepburn and I can only say, please please please have it installed by a bike shop or make sure you really know what you are doing. The basket fell off while I was riding, with Hepburn in it, and I can only thank God that he was OK, albeit very scared. I use the bike to go almost everywhere, so I needed a new solution after the basket mishap, since Hepburn refused to ride in the basket anymore. It was a rear basket and he would try to climb up my back while I was riding, strapped in of course so he couldn't actually get out, but very irritating and scary for him. I then purchased a bike trailer for him and he loves it! He gets to have his bed and some toys in there and he can see everything, including me, without getting out. The bonus is, I also use the bike trailer to bring groceries home from the store or pick up bulkier items I can't carry when biking. I also own a Celltei bag, I think it is the pouch-o-pet, the front pack. I use this for everyday use, not just when biking. It makes regular air travel, visits to crowded shopping malls and street festivals, and travel on the public transportation so much easier, because I can see Hepburn, he can see me, he can see where he is going, and my hands are free to take care of whatever I need to. The bag, however, also is great for short trips on the bike (like to the pet store up the street or the vet 3 blocks away) where I am not keen on attaching the trailer. If you are mountain biking, I would recommend a front pack of some sort, rather than a bike, because the dog feels more secure and is contained therefore less likely to be jolted around in a basket, even if he/she is strapped in. Also, remember that in the Winter, even though you are feeling warm from pedaling, the dog is even colder than normal, because he isn't walking and therefore not warming himself up. Always bundle the dog up more when taking a bike ride than you would if you were taking a walk. I find that even when it is about 50 degrees farenheit, Hepburn still gets cold while in his trailer or bag during a bike ride or even just being carried in the bag or pushed in the trailer. Hope this helps! Enjoy biking with your dog. It is really fun and if you know what to do and find the best way to bring your dog with you that your dog also likes, then it can be a great experience for both of you. |

| The like trailers look like a ton of fun for the pups. I work on a island mainly used for biking. Although pets arent aloud, one day a guy had his yorkie mix service dog in a backpack on his back as he rode. It was the cutest thing. She layed her head on his shoulder as he rode, she was so relaxed riding with him.

| Thank you guys for your response. I got a basket for the front of the bike, we tried it....but she made me too nervous. The basket also serves as a car carrier so that is what we use it for. I think if we were to try the bike riding again I would want to try some sort of front pack....

CaLi and I went to the Farmer's Market in Oceanside Ca yesterday, and the cutest little yorkie and her momma went rolling by. Her momma had to stop and admire CaLi (of course, who wouldnt?) J/K so we let the doggies sniff each other. She had a cute little basket on the front for her little girl, and I got to thinking... Since I don't have a bike, I could merely rent one for a few bucks and bring my own basket...I don't think I want the enclosure on top...I might have to browse and find a doggie friendly basket with some type of tether to keep her from jumping. If you know of any ideas or sites, give me a shout out. I love this idea of taking them along on such a fun adventure

| I ride my dogs in backpacks since my bike doesn't support the use of baskets. I carry ChiChi in my softball backpack...I let him stick his head out, have his harness on and the leash is connected to a strap on top of the bag so if he falls out he doesn't hit the tire or ground. I tie the zippers together with a shoelace so he can't open the hole bigger than his head. He is a 22 pound dog so that's the only thing that supports the "big bag of rice' lol. My gf carries jimmy in a regular doggie bag carrier and clips him in. Neither of us can ride with them in the front though, our knees hit the bags. Last edited by beecee; 01-13-2012 at 09:13 AM. | We have a cruiser with a basket. Tallulah's still getting used to it, but she's really starting to love the wind blowing through her hair. One thing I think is really important (as others have said) is to use a harness, not a collar, and I like to wrap the leash (in a fairly complex manner) around my handlebars. This seems to do the trick to keep her in. I don't like securing the leash to the basket because I don't fully trust it to stay put, even though it probably will.
