| My little girly is looking for a boyfriend! Hello i live in Eastbourne with my family and have just had my first season. Mummy says i can have a boyfriend to come and live with us if i can find a small male yorkie looking for a new home or a girlfriend. If not mummy says if i can find a suitable friend she will let me have a litter next season. She hasn't figured out how to add a photo of me yet, but i am a toy size little girl, very friendly, very affectionate and i go everywhere with my mummy. Is there anyone out there for me? |

| Don't Do It!!! PLEASE DO NOT BREED FROM YOUR YORKIE!!! Until she is at least 2 years old! Yorkies need to mature properly and whilst she is still growing and maturing she needs all her energy going into herself! Also ask yourself WHY you want to breed and what motivates you? If it's money forget it...to breed a decent litter and provide what might be very expensive Veterinary care you need an overdraft!!! If you have a small Yorkie(there's no such thing as a miniature Yorkie in the UK KC Breed Standard) you may well kill her if you let her get pregnant! There are far too many poor quality Yorkies and other breeds of dogs being bred in the UK...so many that rescue centres stand no chance of rehoming all the dogs and inevitably some get euthanased. As you state in your post she is TOY sized(again there is no such size in the breed standard!) there are just Yorkshire terriers! Bitches should be 7 to 7 and a half pounds, they say this so that under size Yorkies are NOT bred from and put at risk! Males should be 3-4 pounds. Go to http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/199 to see the breed standard and have a re-think PLEASE! all the best, Dawn |

| DON'T BE PUT OFF BY THIS ARROGANT WOMAN....as you can see from a few other posts she is only too ready to condemn ANYONE who is not a show breeder, and is only interested in pups who conform to the exact breed standard, and also protect show people's income. She is right that you should wait until your female is mature - 18 months to two years is best. As for getting a wee boyfriend for your dog - if you can keep him away from her during seasons - unless he is neutered - until she is older, then as long as you buy the male dog/puppy carefully, and talk to it's breeder about it's anscesters/parents and health, and read up on the subject(there are many good books), and are at home - not working, and have a good vet and vet care, and can be bothered about puppies making a mess, and are determined to check that all the people homing your pups are suitable, and are sure you can home them - then breed if you really want to. If your dog is small, then you'd be best to buy a smaller dog,(2-3lbs) to hopefully help her to be able to have small enough pups to get out without needing a caesarian.....otherwise it could be a risk to your dog. And most of all, by being a pet breeder, think about not charging the ridiculously high prices that KC breeders usually want, and give the chance of owning a nice wee dog to all the lonely retirees who cannot afford such huge prices. (pensioners) I am sure you already know that you should only breed from her once a year - to rest her, and ensure her and the pups best health, and never above the age of 5 years or any more than 5 litters. If you were considering on doing it more than once, I would personally look into having more than one female and only do two litters each in their lifetime, for the sake of each dog....but that is just what I would do. Always remember it could be a risk to your wee female - you should be fine with good vet-care......and if you decide that you'd rather not breed on thinking about it, then get the female neutered, and they will both just love each other's company ! I did that, and they loved having another small dog about after thinking that it was only they who were that small ! I have now added another female....though would never add another enire male as they would fight. The playing between the three of them is hillarious ! Good luck whatever your decision ! There should be people better qualified than me to give you good advice about breeding your female, and those who really care about Yorkies will only be too happy to give it, and not keep all the joy to themselves as if it's only they who should be allowed ! Some breeders are very good, and perhaps if you decide to go for a male puppy - when you phone around you could go for the pup that the caring type of breeder is most willing to pass on her knowledge, and tell you all you would need to know - and be willing to be on the other end of the phone for advice whenever. You could also consider rehoming a poor wee soul who needs a good home - ask you area "Yorkie Rescue" if they have any dogs from sad circumstances needing a loving and amazing home with you. You will feel so good about this if you do it, that you maybe wouldn't be bothered about having any puppies, but want to do it again and again. I have done this twice now after buying my first wee female as a puppy. I paid money, though you don't always have to if from a shelter, to people who had to give up their dogs....I had my own female, then bought a male at 19 months, and now another female age 3 years. I nursed them back to full health and they are just so greatful to have such a pampered and loving home and return so much love you would not believe. It's worth thinking about. Puppy farmers (not good and caring pet breeders) are the only people who should be condemned out of hand ! Read those books first......and then think about it. I wish you the very best......DEBRA Pic of the wee male I got for my neutered female after three years on her own, (before my new wee female came) .....the first is the male, and the one next to him is his "girlfriend" !!! |

So all those who have left nice comments.... thank you very much. And for those who left the nasty ones.... maybe you should read a thread properly before you jump down someones throat as you could actually upset someone!!!! NOT ME THO.... so sorry if that was your intention those who sent a private email!!!

| Where in Newfiedreams post does it state anything about not breeding unless you're a show breeder. Where did she state not to breed. What she did say was don't breed the female now. Wait until she was 2 and to breed responsibly. Now in defense of NicolaF 22, she did state that she was planning to breed her little girl, but not until her 2nd Season.....Contrary to what she posted in her 2nd post. Her Quote I have 2 little girls, both of whom are spayed.I AM NOT LOOKING TO BREED nor am i looking to put my little girls in anyform of danger. We would simply like to add to our already very happy family.

| I think you need to go and RE-READ some of my posts as you seem determined to label me A) A snob and B) Arrogant! Name calling is really not on you know!? I have offered SOUND advice as stated by other peoples replies in ALL instances! I wasn't rude to any until they started their very mature name calling! I haven't stooped to name calling...only insisted on knowledge and carefull consideration of ANY breeding plans...in fact in your reply to this post you actually said that I was right! What are the chances?? I think it is you that needs a lesson in curtesy, and the fact that Yorkie rescue deals with so many ill-bred, badly thought out litter returns is the very reason why I get so damn upset at wilful neglect to forethought! All the best, Dawn |

We often have the types of jobs that usually someone is home, homebased businesses, own businesses, each working different shifts. I don't expect my dogs to even support themselves with the odd bit of money I get for the occasional pup I have for sale. I pay their Vet bills, toys, new beds, food, treats etc from my income. As a show breeder we are just wanting to protect our breed so there are not the poor quality representatives of our breed out there, that they don't end up in rescues and shelters because a breeder won't take a dog or puppy back that they sold when the owner doens't want it anymore. We also try very hard to be sure our puppies will not be carrying genetic problems. Many breeders who just breed to sell puppies don't have a clue what genetic problems there are in our breed and certainly do not have any idea if they are producing a problem. | |

| In reply to the previous statements, you are taking too much upon yourselves here. Since when were Yorkies "your breed" - that is what is most offensive - you assume that the rest of us are uncaring, unthoughtful, and don't also worry about our dogs welfare, and have no rights to wanting to think of ourselves as Yorkie people too. That is how it comes accross. They are NOT your breed to CONFORM as you want them too, and not once did I say that any of you were not at home ! I was only stating that I was at home ! What you want for the breed is not always the best, as you do little to value all the others who do not make it up to your standards, though I daresay you are into helping the shelters, etc, you would not dream of showing any of them as in your eyes, "they are not good enough" - what complete and utter tripe ! That's where the snobbery comes in ! That's why as a person with a life-shortening painful condition and a disabled daughter, I feel that I know how it feels to be written off and not valued, and I am just putting myself in all those other wee dogs position. And you cannot ever guarantee, no matter what your good intentions are, that some at least of your pups will not be born with features that you would not agree come "up to standard!" Your comments ARE arrogant, as are mine from my point of view - as we all want what we think is best for our Yorkies - so thanks for the nasty personal messages which really cheered me up no end, and all the nice messages which agree I have a point, even if you don't agree ! LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO HITLER WHEN HE TRIED TO FORM THE "PERFECT RACE" IN HIS EYES....AND BY EVIDENCE THERE ARE A FEW HITLERS ON THIS SITE ALSO. nicolaf22 I am sorry I got the angle of my reply wrong - I was confused by your posts ! I HOPE IT WASN'T ME YOU WERE OFFENDED BY.....I am all for what you are planning in the future, and I was hoping to share what I have learnt so far with you, as we all don't have people we can ask - SO AS I SAID, THE VERY BEST OF LUCK TO YOU, and I hope you find a nice wee boy as I did ! Check the ads in your local advertiser, and the shelters if you can't find a breeder.....I found my darling wee mannie that way. DEBRA |

| Hi, I think you condemn as much as anyone...for instance, I am one of the descendants of the Jews who escaped slaughter by Hitler. At the moment I am recovering having come out of hospital on Sunday after a knee replacement...I had both my hips replaced, one in July 2005 and the other in December 2005. I am FORTY SEVEN years old! I am also diabetic, hypothyroid, I have had 2 major lots of surgery on my spine for severe Arthritis,(plus other problems with my heart etc) the last in 2000 a spinal fusion...some of us KNOW very well that all dogs, people, races aren't perfect...the World aint even perfect...but what we aspire to is to create, achieve and breed the very best we can...by studying genetics, by knowing faults in breeding lines and lessening the chances of producing any of these. If, for example, I had or carried a disease or illness that I knew I had a more than 50% chance of passing on to my children, I doubt very much that I would have had any children! That's the reason why I list my complaints, so you know I DO know what I'm talking about! Raising puppies can be a heart rending and very expensive 'hobby' and no-one makes any money unless they are puppy farmers! We also value EVERY life given on this earth! Whether perfect or not! To be honest I find your hostility and aggressive stance offensive and rude, as you are so derisive about people you know nothing about. Most people want the best to happen for every pup born and a lot of times I'm afraid that doesn't happen due to ignorance! All we are trying to do is to make people think about why, when and how they breed! Is that such a crime? I don't think I've called anybody names, which is more than I can say for you!!! Let's hope judgment stays with God shall we? I KNOW I'm not perfect in body or spirit, I wonder if you know whether you are??? |

| Ohh and another thing...on average it costs between ?30 to ?100 pounds to enter and travel to a Championship Show!!! Cheaper for Open shows...but say Crufts...entry fee ?20-?25, PER DOG! then travel, for me around ?50 there and back, then having to leave at 5am! Yeah, I can see why I do that! Perhaps you're right...we ARE all insane! |

If you want to get technical there are definately toy sized Yorkies as all Yorkshire Terriers are TOY dogs! The breed standard is NOT TO EXCEED 7 pounds -- does not say bitches should be 7 to 7 1/2 pounds -- it says the standard is NOT TO EXCEED 7 pounds. Everyone has opinions -- sharing them AS opinions is fine. But to tell her that all breeding bitches need to be 7 to 7 1/2 pounds and males all need to be 3-4 pounds is JUST an opinion. It may be shared by many or few, but it is still an opinion. Instead of thinking that all who contemplate breeding are idiot, evil-minded money grubbers, give the benefit of the doubt! I think most of us DO put our dogs above the almighty dollar, pound or notes. If you are an experienced breeder -- offer to share the knowledge in a way that is not so combative. This is just a suggestion based on my own opinion.

| How rude and how cruel YORKIEDREAMS ! For your information, you have just told me, someone who has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome type 3/4, a hereditory life shortening condition with a 50% chance of passing it on to any offspring, which has meant I have had a lot more operated on than you from the age of 14, and I am now only 39, and shouldn't be here - was told I should have been dead at 30, etc, that I wouldn't have kids if I knew I had something like that ! Well I have one very blessed daughter, who I have passed the condition (and more) onto, through no fault of my own as it was in my notes but never relayed to me in time - and do you know something - I wouldn't change having her for the world with all that is disabled about her. If you say well you never had any more - then I will tell you it wasn't for the lack of trying - I couldn't have any more....which is why I have replaced the kids I never had with my three treasured Yorkies ! My daughter is nearly 17 and will need watching out for, for the rest of her shortened life, but she brings joy and laughter to all who meet her - she is also a stunning looking girl. So maybe now you can see that I am not being critical per say, I am only trying to tell your overpowering character ...no matter how well intentioned you think you are....that there are other points of view that are equally correct.
