| Looking for a Yorkshire terrier breeder in ON. Hi all! I've been reading the Cdn. forums and this is my 1st post... ihave been looking for a Yorkie for a few months. I have called a few people, but still haven't found my puppy. I am looking for a puppy that will mature to about 4-6 lbs. with a "dollface" and short legs and body. I am willing to travel within Ontario (I live in Toronto). If anyone can provide me with a few names and #'s of some reputable breeders as well as some of your own experiences of finding your dogs, I would really appreciate it! I have heard of people paying $1200-1500 for registered dogs, and others who hae paid well over $2000. What is the average price of a CKC reg'd Yorkie these days? I look forward to hearing from everyone! |

| There are quite a few listed on the dogsincanada.com website. You can do a search for yorkies in Ontario here: http://www.dogsincanada.com/Default.aspx?tabid=66 Just because they're advertising there doesn't mean they're great breeders, but many great breeders do advertise there. It's a good starting point imo.

| I bought from thanarenekennelinc.ca. Chloe was $850 because of her lighter colour...they had a whole bunch of other Yorkies. As well as 3 others from Chloe's litter. 2 girls & 1 boy (don't know if they were spoken for or not). It's in St. Isidore, probably about 5 1/2 - 6 hours from TO.

No problem, good luck & keep us posted! By the way, here's a few pics of Chloe...all the ones in her litter looked very similar (the lighter colour) except she's super tiny because she was the runt. The one boy that was left was smaller, too, if that's what you're looking for...I'd guess he was about 2 3/4lbs because Chloe was just under 2lbs when we picked her up. The two girls were probably more like 3.5-4lbs. She had the dark Yorkies, too, though...but I'd bet they're more expensive. She also had Yorkie mixes. I know she had Morkies and I THINK she had Yorkie-poodle mixes. 102_1581.JPG 102_1587.JPG 102_1635.JPG 102_1744.JPG Also, she came with her first 2 shots, a health guarantee, and a little puppy care package. We just had her to the vet & she's healthy as a horse. Good luck

| Chloe's a cutie, but don't you think an incorporated kennel with mixes and lots of puppies available at once just screams broker, puppy mill, or serious BYB? (I would hope nobody would knowingly give their money to any of those.) Perhaps you visited the premises and know otherwise... I just wouldn't consider a situation like you described.

Don't know what BYB means, but here's the thing... When I went to see Chloe at first, I didn't get to see all the puppies available as she has the puppies in a kennel in the back (the "puppy suite" as she calls it) and only her dogs or ones that are sold, being held or going to be seen in the house. Of course, I fell in love with Chloe instantly when she picked me so there was no turning back & I put a deposit on her. Then, when I went back to pay for & pick Chloe up, the breeder offered to show us her brothers & sisters who were still in the "puppy suite." I was a little horrified by the outside appearance of it, but when we went inside it was actually really well set-up and the puppies all seemed to be really well taken care of. It was painted nice, there were potty areas, a doggie door so they could get outside with a nice fenced in area that had insulated dog houses, and a grooming table & supplies. There were tons of heat lamps all over the place and most of the dogs were running free inside. There was one pregnant poodle who was due anyday who was in a cage and the breeder told me that was just in case she went into labour, she didn't want all the other dogs to bother her. They all knew their names when she called them individually, which I took as a good sign since she's obviously with them enough for them to learn their names... I got to meet Chloe's Mommy & Daddy, they both appeared to be very healthy and they are both over 5lbs. The breeder told me that she does not breed any females under 5lbs and none under 2 years. She also said that she sells the breeding dogs once they've had 3 litters so that she doesn't over-breed them. She did have a lot of different breeds though which I didn't like. Overall, though, she seemed really nice and someone who really loves and takes care of her dogs. None of the dogs were scared of people or each other. I sincerely hope it's not a puppy mill or anything because I'd hate to think I supported that in any way, but I obviously don't regret getting Chloe... By the way, Chloe's litter was older (4 1/2 months) than the dark Yorkies.

I would at least give her respect for keeping her dogs in good housing and condition. I have seen some pretty bad places that really didn't have many dogs in comparison, only one breed, purebred at that, but those were still not kept clean nor were they well looked after at all. They were entirely being sold for income, although few in number. This breeder I had no respect for whatsoever and would have liked to have been able to get the authorities to seize them from her and shut her down. | |

| Have you looked at thefurkids.com? They are located just southeast of Ottawa and she often has puppies. That is where I got Mocha. |

| Thanks to everyone for all the advice and leads. I may be bringing home my puppy this summer in July. I found a few wonderful breeders and have finally narrowed it down to 1!!! The breeder' dogs are all champions and she is collaborating with other reputable breeders from all over to better the breed. Her prices were extremely fair (not too low, nor too high) and she has the most beautiful dogs and puppies I have seen. She has an imported female from Czechoslovakia (also a champion) who is the most prettiest dog I have seen to date! I am so excited...July seems too long! I will most definitely post some pics in the near futurd and keep everyone UTD... Again, thank you to all, especially my fellow Canadians for posting all their advice... So very sincerely, Mojolim. |
