Canada Members Here's a section for all our friends up north! |
Hi from Canada My name is Sharron I have Maggie all 4.5 pds of her she will be 2 in June and we live near Toronto, Canada. Anyone else from Canada? :) |
Hi Sharron, I'm Sean and have a 2 pound 13 week old Yorkie named Sheila. I live in downtown Toronto. |
Hi Canadian Friends: My Brady is 4 months old and 2.5 pounds. We live in Ottawa. Do you guys take your little one out for walks in the winter? Does your baby to his/her business outside or inside? We let Brady out the other day when it was above 0, she played in the fresh snow for a couple minutes but soon started shivering.... |
Hi , My name is Olivier . I live in Montreal , Quebec . My Yorkshire Terriers are Sandrine , Kellie and Gioia . |
My name is Tonya and my Yorkie's names are Lady (6mths 3lbs 1oz) and Sprocket (6mths 4lbs 4oz) I live in Regina Sask. and my dogs are both pee pad trained and outside trained they do most of their buisness outside now that the weather is better. They don't like the fleece jackets I got them so they haven't been outside much till the last 3-4 weeks... eh! ha, ha |
How did you get them to start going outside after always going on the pad? |
Good idea but I don't know if I should just continue to let her use the pad, it doesn't bother me and I don't want to confuse her when winter comes again and I don't want her to go outside. On another note, what are you guys feeding your Yorkies? I'm feeding Brady Royal Canin Mini puppy mixed with Eagle pack puppy canned food, she also gets apples and yoghurt on a regular basis. |
Hi everyone My name is Fran and I have a grandbaby yorkie named Homer. We live in Dartmouth Nova scotia . I puppy sit Homer 2 or 3 days a week . He is 11 weeks old and weighs 1.65 kg . He is quite the challange . Loves the outside now that there is no snow. I don't know what next winter will bring. He is neither paper trained or outside trained yet .I hope to get him to go outside when he is with me. he just drops his butt anywhere if he needs to go no warning. I try to take him out every hour if its nice. :animal-sm |
Hi Fran: These little ones can be a challenge...a good tip a I received is they always have to pee after a play time or a nap (even if it's just 5 minutes) so if the little one is sleeping on you and wakes up take her outside right away and if she goes praise her lavishly! Don't punish her - that doesn't work. Just praise her for the good stuff. |

I have no idea but I'm sure if you post something in a new thread in the behaviour section you'll get tons of answers. This place is like a Yorkie encyclopedia. |
Hello Brady :) I had problems training on the pee pad (lots) So I didn't take he pad outside... however I still have them in the house just in case. I had 5 days off work and decided to nip this thing in the bud. (6mths old) and good weather forcast I was able to take him from 40% trained to 90% and she went from 80% trained to 100% let's cross our fingers... I did everything you mentioned in a later reply with taking them out lots of love and treats for "good potty" every 1 1/2 hours. It was a lot of work and patience but It has payed off my house is finally not spelling of pee or vinegar! For small dogs their poops may be smaller but they make up for it in frequency! ;) Hope this helps sorry for not replying earlier but My husbands been monopolizing the computer with school work. |
Oh Canada Hello fellow Canadians! I'm from BC and I have a wee female Yorkie-Papillon. Any fellow British Columbians out there? Any one ever done air travel with their baby??? I'd like to take her to Edmonton with me at the end of the month....but I'm a little nervouse about putting her in the belly of a cold steal flying machine! :plane: |
Wish this thing had spell chekc!! LOL |
You can actually fly with you baby in a carrier under the seat in front of you, check out air canada's website for more details!!!! |

Good! I would never but my little baby in the cargo hold of a plane! Could you imagine how scared she would be? If the cats are mean I would keep them away from your baby - could you imagine how bad you would feel if she hurt... |
Greetings From Canada Hi. I live in Sudbury, Ontario and have a 4 month old shorkie who is 3 pounds. I had a yorkie who just recently passed in January. I miss her so much. Loved her so much that we knew we wanted another yorkie right away. Toby looks just like a yorkie, but his legs are a little shorter like a shih tzu. I also have 85% trained him on peedle pads and I am now trying to do the outside thing. I think he is a little confused. Anyway, we are enjoying him none the less. :) |
Hello Fellow Canadians! My husband and I have an 11 week (2.2Lb) little female named Kiwi. We live in Downtown Toronto, and as it is a condominium we natually do not plan to toilet train her outside. At this point she is using pee pads, and this method seems to be working relatively well. I was wondering how all of you are socializing your puppies with other dogs? |

Kiwi's mom , welcome to YT . |
Thank you Oliver for the welcome! About taking the puppy to a day care; was she fully vaccinated before she went? Were you not worried about her catching something from the other doggies? A puppy day care may be a good idea. I will look into it as soon as she gets her next round of shots. |
Wow!!! I wish there was something like that in Ottawa...maybe there is...I'm going to check. How much is it per day??? We took Brady to puppy school to socialize her....also, just going into PetSmart on Saturday is a great way to meet other dogs. |
Hello Everyone!! I just found the canadian forum today :) My 5 month old baby Cairo and I live in Calgary, Alberta Any other albertans out there? |

Yorkie in the city Hi there My spouse and I live in Toronto with our 1 year old yorkie named Loki. We don't see too many yorkies where we live. That's why we love this site. Anyone from Toronto? :) |
Hiyah Yorkie Lovers in Canada :) Hiyah Fellow Canadians :) Izzie and her mom here :) We live in downtown Toronto, and LOVE to go to our local park to terrorize the squirrels. Izzie is now 13 1/2 mos. old and weighs a whopping 4.01 pounds. She is thoroughly trained on a pad indoors, and almost fully outdoors as well too! She visits wonderful Vet and staff at the Animal Clinic on Mutual and loves to go to the Doghouse on Church, visit Birdy the singing fox terrier, and pick up her food (which she loves). She eats a rehydrated diet made by NRG in various flavours, as well as loves her humongous ostrich raw bones. As for treats, she loves to snack on baby carrots, apples, yogurt, cheese, crackers, and pears. Well really she loves all food but only enjoys the better ones for her. This past winter was not that enjoyable as even in multi-layers, she loses body heat rapidly and has to come back in. However to see her in her fleece snow suit, her down snowsuit, and her winter boots puts a smile on everyone's face. What can I say about my girl, I just adore her to pieces and enjoy sharing that with others :) If interested in a great breeder, please don't hesitate to ask for a referral. :aimeeyork |
TO yorkie Hi there so nice to hear of fellow torontonians with yorkies. We live at Spadina and Bloor with our 1 year old yorkie. He is such a city dog- he is so tough and fearless and of course adorable. We hardly ever see other yorkies and their owners. How about you? |
