Have you ever had this happen? I took Keekee to the vet yesterday to have a full blood panel and Bile Acid tests done along with complete check up and STD (including burcellosis) tests done, since I plan to breed her coming up this month. Well she checked out fine and all normal. But when I took her home all she wanted to do was to sleep. She had me worried for awhile. Just to be on the safe side I gave her Nuti-Cal and she would not eat. I did give her chicken and she ate that up. This morning she is back to her normal happy self. Either she barked the whole time there, since we had to drop her off for the morning. Or she was just pissed I left her. Have you guys ever have the same situation? It is if she pouted the whole evening. T.

I forgot to mention - we do of course had to have her fast for the Bile Acid test and maybe that's what it could have been too. She loves to eat and not use to holding back her food. You do have to leave your babies for this test, since they have to draw blood several times - once after fasting and again after food. But I did also have the full blood panel done too, since there is some controvercies with just using the Bile Acid test. By the way - just thought I would mention for people that agrue the cost of pups - the fee for her visit yesterday was 187.00 with a discount that my vet gives me. I would never switch from him, because I feel that he is just the best! He even calls me long distance if needed, since I live in another county and I have his home number for emergencies. I also asked about spaying and neutering the pups before the age of 12 weeks (like I have seen some do) compared to selling limited registered pups - this way I know the pups will be spayed and neutered. He did not recommend spaying or neutering until they are at least 5 months, since it affects their bone growth if done earlier than 5 months. Then it will be 850.00 for stud service and this is all before pups are here. Of course I have some money saved for a c-section or other emergency, just in case. The stud service is normal fee for the quality of this stud, so I am not complaining. I am more than happy to pay this. He is the best for the match of my girl. If one truly does it correctly, like I plan to do - how much will it all end up to cost? I can post later to let you all know when we are all finished. Sorry this is so long, ut wanted to have all information available. T.

Sounds like she is back to normal now. As far as expense, the sky is the limit. A c-section can cost over $2,000 if you have to use an emergency hospital. Will probably cost $1,000 or less from your vet (not sure of course). My vet charges $50 for an x-ray and $29 for an exam. I had to have it done twice. It is a good idea to take Mamma and pups to for a check up within 24 hours of whelping. Some wait til the 3rd day when the vet docks tails and removes dew claws. I pay $25 per pup which includes the tail docking, dew claw removing and a shot of antibiotic. Mamma also gets a shot at this time (or if you took her within the 24 hour period). If all goes well, you should be good til week 6 when it is time for their first shots (if that is when your vet recommends them). Then it is time for shots again 2 weeks later. Most vets will charge a "multi-visit" fee at this time and not charge per pup. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Julz. Yes, I know about the high cost of raising pups, since this is not new to me. But wanted to share, since many do not know and complain about the cost of a pup. I do everything in my power to make sure I get healthy pups, since I want the best pups possible. Health and soundness is my number one concern. I am hoping to keep one possible pup myself, hopefully for show. I just hope all goes well. I think what happened to Keekee was that she is not use to be away from home and not eating when she wants. I felt so bad to have put her through this, but know it (giving all the tests) is very important before I would even consider breeding her. She is doing great and happy as can be again. I plan to show her at a match soon, but she is just not show/ring personality, my opinion. She loves to lick the air when she gets a little nervous, but is gorgeous!! The stud owner asked if I really wanted to breed her now since she is in show coat and you know how that goes with pups. But will see how the match goes. Any ideas how to get her to quite licking the air? LOL Here is a picture of her.Enjoy! T.

She is absolutely precious! I mentioned some of the costs because I thought that's part of what you were asking at the end of the one paragraph. She really is beautiful! Love the pictures!

Bile Acid and Blood If you have the full blood panel done is the acid bile necessary? what does the full blood panel tell you, other than liver shunt? Also, is there anywhere yet that can screen for the major yorkie problems like leggs perthe and such? That would be nice.
