i was not trying to be mean, i was just simply saying that there are always 2 sides to EVERY story. everyone should know this with the way things have been going here in the last week. like you said you "warned" her but if she chooses to continue and checks her out for herself then that is her right to do so.... |

I didn't see any debate? All I saw was a bunch of us commenting and some sharing their experience. |

From my rough beginnings of getting into Yorkies. I've had conversations with MANY 'Breeders'. My guess was she was a broker too. She has it set up as other brokers aka breeders that sell for 'friends'. Focus is puppies for sale, and all about how nice her house is and spa day..blah blah...She doesn't mention where the puppies come from. Just where she has them and where they live..that is something that that put's a flag up saying..find out more...call and ask the tough questions.. Can I see the parents? If she's selling for a friend, ask to talk to the friend..that should't be a problem right? If it is..RUN! Don't be so taken by the pretty pictures on website..that is such an easy way to take the focus off of the content of the site. And believe me, there are more people than you will imagine that jump on this bandwagon. Thank you stormy for sharing! SO sorry you had this experience. |
Whoa..let's all focus on the positive here, we have more info than we did we we first look at it. I Personally feel 2 sides thing can't always be applied. This is a perfect example. Her intentions of carefully omitting things on her site, put her in a category of a breeder I personally wouldn't want to talk to. I wouldnt believe a word she said..lololol..why hear her side. I would just move on. Websites can provide a wonderful guide as for weeding out most of these unethical breeders. There are exceptions and variations of course. But her 'style' is the same as the others I know for fact are brokers. I know emotions and hormones (for those that still have them..lolol.) are running high this week. Let's try to bring it down a notch (myself included) Sorry if this sounds preachy...take if for what it's worth. |
I'm from Chicago and I don't trust easily When I look at a website, I know they can say anything they want. They can give you twenty pages of ways to care for them to make themselves look good. They can say, they guarantee and when you get there, nothing is in writing and it isn't worth squat. They can post pictures that are not even theres( we've just gone through that with puppyfind) They can show you pedigrees that don't even belong to their dogs and promise you papers that never come. It's the buyers job to do their homework and the ol saying BUYER BEWARE never meant more than it does when buying a pet that will be your companion for possibly 12 to 15 years. After Hollybelle, I believe nothing unless I see it with my own eyes and would never ship. This gal at Hollybelle had Villa Malta Maltese (the best line and the original) she advertised in Dog World for 8 to 10 years with different well know people in her ads . The one with Bill Ray Cyrus holding a Malese as if he bought it was in there for years and she was shipping them out at 2000 a crack and that was years ago. When people came to pick them up which I hear she tried to hide from, she went to her x-husband's house with the puppy. She sent everyone the same set of beautiful pictures and when she was arrested people could not believe it was as bad as it was. They knew they had been taken because so many had sick pups but they each thought they were the only ones. Oh, yes in her ad she offered a five year guarantee on health(not in writing) so she'd get sued and she didn't care because her poor dog were popping out puppies as fast as they could. Sorry this is so long but I just feel most people are way too trusting. Look how long it took to lock this woman up and two of her four x husbands are breeding with some of her dogs now. http://www.hollybellemaltese.com/index2.html |

I do resent being attacked because I tried to warn the girl who was considering spending all of her hard earned dollars. My problem had nothing to do with the cost of the puppy.Sigh....nuff said...at least on my side. |

Before I read this thread I noticed that there were no pictures of the parents. Huge huge huge red flag. If you're going to take the time to make a site, you should take the time to photograph the mamas and the papas. Talking about your house doesn't mean JACK to me. All I want to see is where these babies (floppy eared or not) came from !!!!! |
My job as a banker, I am analytical (I say Anal) I tend to look at the whole picture and look for a pattern to identify how they compare to others. That gives me generals. Now, Joan brought in another good point..just because they spell everything out on the site doesn't mean diddly!! Thanks Joan, even I forgot to add that..lolol...must enhance my anal skills..lolol. Sorry for the LAAAAME humor.. I need to go to bed, but I wont! |

O My Goodness I Log Back On And There Is A Book...ok Let Me Read!! |
If you will refer back in this thread, there was no attack, no debate and no bad mouthing. this is a perfect example of how our threads turn ugly so fast. again i will say that i am sorry that one of our valuable members had a bad experience with this breeder. there are also red flags for me as well as i've read through the site, i didn't see them at first glance, because quite frankly, i skim through things at times because i'm one busy lady... i would never buy a puppy from anyone even suspected of being a broker. thats enough for me. "enuff said" |
Stormy, i have a question..what drew you to this breeder in the first place and led up to your purchase of the baby? just curious |
O boy didn't know my thread would cause up such a stir. I'm honored...lol I did contact Denise a couple of weeks ago but I never really had the chance to ask her any questions because once she told me the price I was like HELL TO THE NAW. I really need to know if I will be able to afford a breeders Yorkie even before I start asking questions because if I don't then I'll be waisting my time when they tell me they want $2000 TO START for one when most likely that is the price for the boys. If she would've gave me a lower figure then Yes I would've grilled her with the questions. I am new to this dog buying process but I have done my homework especially on the Yorkie Breed. If she would've told me the parents where not in the home I would've told her no thank you. Learned that from reading Yorkie books plus I do learn alot off here. I do think I have found a Breeder though. Ms Sylvan's Yorkies..I'm on her waiting list...just waiting and waiting and waiting :D I still like to check out other breeders as well. I'm not buying until May/June though. |

we went there too! My husband and I visited here also! When I called I was told that we could see the parents when we came to visit but when we got there there were no adults in sight. I could also hear lots of noises (barking, rustling, etc.) coming from the basement. When I asked she said she babysits all of the yorkies when the owners go out of town. I thought to myself that there must have been a lot of people on vaca that week!!! Anyway, when I called she said that prices started at 1200 but when we got there and started inquiring all of them were at least 2500! I guess my point is that it all just seemed a little like a facade. I hope this is helpful. |
I am so happy I found this site!! Really happy I know the real deal about this woman now. Quote:

This shows that a nice site is often deceiving.... and the best reference IS someone who has personally dealt with a breeder....This was really interesting that's for sure. GOOD LUCK getting your yorkie ! |
Interesting thread! I hadn't even heard of puppy brokers(other than Pet shops) before coming to YT. I looked at the site before reading this thread. My thoughts were also...Where are the parents? Info on papers? What size are the parents? After reading the thread. I would NOT go to that breeder 'broker'. |
