| Whelping Box? Does everyone use a whelping box? If not what else do you use? does anyone have a whelping box they'd be willing to sell to me? |

| You can use a plastick storage bin for a whelping box. One that your girl can get in and out of. Or the top half of a Veri Kennel, the plastic ones. Just make sure that your whelping box is in an enclosed area. I use to use a puppy play pen. It's up off the ground. I now have converted a crib into the whelping area. I replaced the mattress with plywood. Lined the whole thing with plexi-glass, place pish pads on the bottom. Placed a whelping box inside of that. Made a ruffle that ties and goes around the entire crib. My girls don't like anyone looking at their puppies. Also, drilled a water hole for the water bottle. Don't use water dishes, pups can drown in them.

It works well for me, water and food dishes are left outside of this box and away from puppies, as well as a pee-pee-pad in case mommy needs to use it. XOXO

| I used a platic storage bin lined with blankets and a "cat privacy tent" that I found at walmart fits snugly over the box. They looked like they were camping for the first three weeks! |

| I use a clear plastic tote also. Easy for mom to get into and out of and I drill a hole in it for the metal coil for the heating pad (puppy one). I also have the higher ones that I use for an ICU set up. I love them due to being portable, see through, and very easy clean up. They do sell them on Ebay but they tend to be pricey. Good luck in your search.

| My husband build me some bottomless whelping boxes and I really love them. I have attached some pictures of them. I just lay out the bedding, with the heating pad on one side and I sit the box on top. No worries about the pups getting lost in the bedding. I will put a small fleece blanket in the box so mom can cover the pups if she wants to. The biggest problem with these boxes is that they do not store well but I discovered that I can stand them on one end and stack two together to make a shelf when they are not in use. One of the boxes I had my husband put posts on it so I can put a sheet over it for more privacy. I used that box for a female I had that was terrified of thunderstorms and it made her feel safer when a sheet was over the box. If someone was talented, you could actually make the box with hinges so it could be folded up when not in use. |

I used to have look alike boxes that my husband built to me... but i found my self replacing them often for the porous wood got "dingy"... i am not sure how you deal with that ... he came about with the idea of doing the same design cut on the plastic bin. I like what you say , no worries about the puppies getting tangled on the sheets... i had that worry with the plastic bins, now i bought a few of those sheep-skin crate beds that fit just to perfection and that has been my choice of bedding... i can toss them on the washer daily . But isn't it nice when hubby steps in to help ? they can do so nice things with the power tools. I guess the Op has a nice picture of a safe area now XOXO
