There is information here on how to post pictures. I am horrible at it but I try. You need to learn so you can show off those babies. I for one want to see them! |
Okay I will read up and see if I can get some posted. We just had two eyes open in the last couple days and one has 1 eye open lol. My 4 lb Tink has a 2 week old baby boy that is 16oz! He is a Tank we call him CB cause he is a big ol cry baby. I have a couple more questions ha ha I know shocker. So with my week old pups I have one TINY girl that my mama is rejecting a bit. She is gaining but very little. When I try to supplement she just opens her mouth wide and doesn't suck. So I have been laying my mama dog down sitting with her and making her nurse baby. Her pups are 1 week 2 days and the little girl is weighing in at just about 4.5 oz. My question is I think I read awhile back that one of the nipples has more milk. I think it's the one by the hind leg?? I want to put her on the milk maker if I can so she doesn't have to work to hard and gets fed. All the other pups are double or more of her. |
Lets see if this works 1 Attachment(s) Attachment 399922 Hey I think I figured it out. Here is CB the big boy but this was about a week ago. |

Hi, just wanted to say the puppies are adorable, you' had a pretty hectic couple of weeks here. Hope you can get some relax time for yourself. |
YES crazy hectic! Thankfully its calming down. Everyone seems to be doing well. I have been up a lot of the night in shifts just to keep an eye on everything. One of the week old girls is not putting on weight she is very strong but her weight isn't changing daily. So I'm bottle feeding and putting her on mom alone. She has stayed right at 5oz for the last couple days but today was just about 5.5oz her litter mates are much larger. My mamas are enjoying the whelping pudding still. I have gone through 6 packets of gelatin so I have make it 6 different times :) |
Wow, just read this from the start. I'm glad the pups and Moms are doing well now. Once again, Judy (Yorkiemom1) has come through with her excellent advice. I love to see that VegasYorkieMama took the advice & became a success story. VYM, it sounds like you have worked your tail off with these 2 litters. This could have easily had a much different outcome...Judy, you and your advice ROCK! :rockhard: |
I am concerned about that tiny little girl....I wouyld have already had her on tube feedings instead of hoping she suckles enough to thrive....the only way you can guage how well she is nursing and utilizing the nourishment she is taking in, is by weight gain. She has minimal weight gain.... She is not getting enough calories to allow her to thrive. That is either because she is simply not ingesting enough calories or she is not able to convert calories into nourishment that allows her to thrive. You need to address each of these issues....first, tube feeding that baby girl will quickly and efficiently solve the intake problem....no guessing, no hoping, just accurate and effective delivery of exactly what this baby requires in order for her to grow. If you have negated THAT issue, then you have to be sure her problem is not physical. From what you describe, you have a mother that is rejecting this little girl....and you have a baby that will not suck....."she just opens her mouth and will not suck" when you try to supplement her feedings. What are we waiting for? If she is NOT getting 1cc per oz of body weight, per feeding, she is slowly starving. Are you able to accurately measure how much you are getting into this baby girl with her feedings? You can see she is not sucking so you need to do something or you will loose this baby. |
She is eating off mom and her tummy looks round full. So when I try to feed her she literally pushes the bottle from her face by turning her head really hard. I just weighed her and she is now up to 6oz. which earlier it was just right at 5.5. Not huge but I will take it. She walks around is very active. I'm holding her right now in a blanket on my chest and she is walk out of the blanket over and over ha ha. Tube feeding scares me. She did take some of the bottle and she eats off of mom. So you said if she is getting enough but not gaining then how do I help the other metabolizing issue? I gave her a tiny tiny tiny bit of nutracal tonight is that okay? She has quite the personality. Lily will feed her she just tends to the others more. |
Here she is 1 Attachment(s) |
Here is her again…. 1 Attachment(s) I just took this one so you could see her belly. Doesn't it look full? She fell asleep in my hand. I LOVE HER she is soooo adorable. Attachment 399963 |

Mama is more excepting of her just in the last day or so. She was 5oz thursday so 3 days and then today went up to 5.5 in the morning, then when I just weighed her an hour ago she was 6oz. When I had tried to feed her Friday several times she would just open her mouth wide and wasn't sucking. I did see that she was able to suck off Lily. She was separating herself from the others and I would put her in a blanket and keep her with me. So honestly I think she was trying to fade. Now she is sleeping with the other ones keeping warm but I keep and eye on her. My husband is off for the next few days he has taken a liking to her since he stayed up last night with her trying to feed her and keep her warm. So he is determined to get her weight up with me. So the story continues lol. All the other ones look great. Thank you again for all the help I really appreciate it. My vets couldn't even begin to help me like you have. :):aimeeyork |

Yes thank you so much for all the help!! It so nice to see my mamas doing so well. Tink has her staples out and she is like her old self. All the babies are so healthy and personalities are coming out now. They are playing with each other and so so so so fun to just sit and watch. I'm sleeping again. Now I'm just up to my eyeballs in poop ha ha but I will take that any DAY over dying pups. |
I can't believe it but the saga continues. We hit 8 weeks with Tinks puppies this last Thursday. Thursday night one of her pups a tiny girl was looking weak. So I tried to get her to eat and long story short she got very limp and no karo, nutrical or anything was helping. So we took her at 11pm to emergency vet. They gave her IV. She had a fever and low WBC was ruled out for Parvo. When I picked her up from vet Friday morning (she stayed the night). She looked good was trying to eat on her own. I let her rest but was with her watching her and making sure she would eat. She started to not eat so I was giving her some via syringe. She weighs 1lb 4oz and hasn't gone up or down. I stayed up last night feeding her ever hour just a little. She was not eating on her own. She was put on clavamox for a possible parasite (Vet thought from low WBC) she is now 4 doses in. She is still not herself. Is that normal after a hypoglycemia attack? She walks around and even nurses. All the other pups are doing great and I even have one of Tinks that weighs almost as much as her. I'm just heartbroken by this whole experience. |
