help help help, adopted a new dog now i have surprise puppies. Okay real quick back story My neighbor has a dog (a chi mix) that he keeps outside in the back yard and a dog he keeps inside. well i noticed that the one from outside getting thicker and her nipples swelling fearing she may be pregnant and knowing that the pups would not survive the cold i gave him a hundred bucks for her i had a vet appointment on tuesday cause of the holiday. so i could confirm she was pregnant and get prepared well i woke up this morning to a stuck puppy howling to get out because she tore his sack before he come. now the first puppy is a girl(pudgy) she is loud and seems fine the second puppy come fast(a girl)teeny and she was half the size and seemed to struggle to breath she is now moving a bit wiggling some and trying to nurse but mom does not seem interested in her and she still seems to be struggling to breath no squeak out of her yet. also one of her front feet is turned in is there anything i can do to try and help her. i have a heating pad i used to help her warm up and after that she did a bit better. I know how much you guys hate when people do this but i promise im trying to do the right thing the emergency vet is 30 min away and they said to wait until we thought the puppies wear all done before we tried to make the trip the said to wait and see on our tiny girl but if the is something i can do i want to try also me and the vet are on the phone every 30 min for updates and progress reports the third puppy(a girl) newbie is yelling and eating and seems fine |
I am sure someone with more birthing experience will be along shortly but in the mean time DO NOT leave her side until you think she's had all the pups as you may need to help her out by gently pulling out a pup and or removing the sac from the pup. |
I am no help, but I want to say what a wonderful thing you did and good luck to you and mommy. |
Sounds like you are doing okay I would try to get the pup to nurse. Keep putting the nipple in her mouth.and if you have the vet on the phone she can give you the best advice. Good luck and look forward to pictures. This was a great thing you did for this dog |
thanks guys. the vet keeps saying what will be will be sometimes you lose pups so im gonna get some puppy milk from the pet store (well i sent someone to get some puppy milk im not going anywhere) and little number 2 seems to be doing better she is squeaking now and trying to move we also have a fourth little girl now who also seems to be doing great crying and nursing like crazy |
keep them WARM, do not feed a chilled pup, the room should be at least 75 degrees, let mama eat at least two placentas, it will help with milk production, rub the puppies with a small towel to help them keep dry, mama's licking stimulates the babies which is great, pm me if you have any questions that I might be able to help, I can send you my phone number in a pm if you want to talk.. wow thanks i never thought i could do that and not hurt them from them being away from mom we are boxing up to head to the vet now. should mom have a seperate crate from the pups? |
no to tavel that young you NEED to keep them all next to mom to minimize stress... you separate them for a few minutes a day to let the runt feed only.. hugs |
umm nope mom got mad when i removed the other three and refused to lay down for little one so i put them all back in we are heading out now so ill update as soon as i can thanks special carmen and you will most defenetly be hearing from me |
Glad you were online to help Carmen! :) |

Okay everyone im sorry i kept you waiting. teeny is doing just fine still much smaller and still has a turned foot but now she is breathing a nursing like a pro and i was so frazzled i did not even relize puppy number 4 is a boy not a girl so 3 girls 1 boy everyone is doing pretty good right now (except me im super frazzled) it has been one hell of a day. ill get you weights and pics soon I did make a 5 min run over to my neighbors house to ask about the father of my pups he is a 7 or 8 pound black terrier solid black except for a patch on his chest and his front feet medium muzzle and pointed ears long legs they would not let me take a pic of him also i just noticed the pups have pointed ears as well and they are already standing up how cute is that? super special thanks to carmen and check your inbox for a message from me. I have missed yorkietalk so much while my computer has been down and its nice to know even though ive been away for a while everyone is still soo willing to come to my rescue |
Glad to hear all are doing well. You did a great job taking the mom in and making sure she and her babies are ok! Yea Carmen for helping out. |
everyone is eating and breathing just fine today mom even got out the cage to eat and go potty and i was told the puppy with the turned foot will be fine if it does not straighten on its own in a week i can have it spilted |
So happy to hear things are going well.:) |
I just got home, so glad to hear that everyone is doing well, specially YOU..LOL I pm ed you my phone number, feel free to call me if you have any questions.. hugs |
Oh my what an exciting New Years you have had. Thankfully there was someone on line who was able to assist you. Good looking out for a member in need. I cant belive that the org owners kept her outside, thats crazy. Such an uncaring and horrible thing to do to such a tiny gal. Cant wait to see pics. |
Okay guys well first off sorry you have had no new updates but i still have no home internet. second sadly i did lose the the little tiny girl she seemed fine when i went to bed but when i got up the next morning she was gone her mom was still cuddling her for warmth even though she had already gone stiff. the vet said that most likely she was burning more calories eating and breathing then she was able to take in to survive the vet said that when a puppy is born that underweight it takes a miracle for them to survive and my little one did not have a miracle in her but she is in a better place now the other three pups are fine and the first pup the girl pudgy has stolen my heart. in fact it seems as if all the pups have homes lined up already with members of my family. ill try to keep you all updated as i can i hope to have the internet back in a few days but apparently the line into my house needs replaced so who knows how long that will take i will upload pics when i have home internet again because i am not allowed at the library but they are super adorable so be prepared for the cuteness. |
OK . I guess I slept through all of this :'( , I read the thread and went through the same excitement with every post. You are a angel to have save the mom and her new pups. Carmen I can't find words , just to say we are bless you jump right in to help. Well what a way to start the year, happy beginning to yt members that help bring this together. Sorry to hear you lose one, put bless you save the mommy and the other pups. To the old owner what was she thinking leaving the pups out there. I'm sure it cold there since it is winter. She should have her pet fixed if she doesn't want to deal with motherhood, fixed your pets, so this doesn't happen again. Well pls post pic's asap , can't wait to see puppy pictures. Good Luck !!!! |
Still checking for pictures. God Bless & Happy New Year |
I missed this thread so happy that the 3 are doing good :) |
