until today she has neverbee aggressive toward me or my husband. now she has been like that towards strangers. i guess this will be her last litter because the vet said her pelvis wasn't big enough for the puppies to get through. |

Since she's not big enough....then you'll have to do what's best for her...spay her and let her be happy little pet....She sounds like she's being a great mom. |
I completely agree with Mardelin. I think she is definitely protecting her puppies from everything. It may be a while before needs to go potty. The medicine from the surgery can slow down that part of the digestive system. Just make sure she has plenty of water and food. You may want to start her on whelping pudding too. Did they do a spay at the time of the c-section? |

Congratulations! Just give her some time and a nice quite place. |
I just wanted to let you guys know everyone is fine and doing well this morning. Also wanted to thank everyone for all of the helpful information and advice. |
Different dogs act different ways when they have had a c-section. The anesthia takes about 10 hours to get out of her system where you notice a change in her. I know my girl did. She is acting protective. That is not wrong. Is she in a quiet place, away from others?? Keep other dogs and kids away form her. If there is too much going on that too will make them act this way. Are the pups nursing okay? My vet said to never leave a mom alone when they are still under anesthia. I will usually set her stuff up next to my bed and stay with her and the pups. But just you with her. They can accidently sit on them, even bite their own pups. They do not know what they are doing during this time. I know my girl even jumped out of her whelping box and tried to hide under the bed. Luckily I was there. They can do some really weird things while the anesthia is still in them. Be sure she is eatting and drinking now, especially drinking. The whelping pudding will give her the calories she need for now, till she feels like eatting, in case she won't eat for you. When my girls had c-sections, I had to hand feed them. Just giving you a heads up, in case. Since she did not have enough room for her pups to be delivered naturally, it is best to have her spayed. Congratulations. |
Tina, I've seen the mos docile of female's personality change their personalities (and just for the period they are with very young pups) to very protective. After all, they are animals and their first instinct is to protect their young....Especially the ones that have whelped their first litter.....it's all new to them.... I have a couple of girls that I have to keep their whelping area completely covered, they want no one too look at their pups.....and then others that are as proud as punch to share them with you.....opening their legs so that you can see them nurse, just loving the attention. |
Good Morning and Congratulations to you and and your new family! We just had 2 bouys and a girl last night!Tiff would eat very small bits of cheese between pups. She would not drink though. I tried putting water on my finger and she licked the drops off. I found that by keeping the finger and water close to her mouth she sould start lapping up the water from a cup. After the delivery she cant eat enough! I feed her much more often but smaller amounts. No bowel movements yet but she got out of the crate around 3am and had a good pee. It was pink but not too worried. I moved the pee pad closer for her.She growls at me too when my hand gets too close to the pups but ok if I just stroke her face. She has tried to leave the pups a few times to check on us but the pups start crying and she cant stand that so she gows running back to them. She is more than happy to show them to me. They are gorgeous!Good luck with yours and hope you get mre sleep than I got last night! |
Well we made it through another night. Everyone is fine this morning except for me. I haven't slept good in a week.
