Should i say ok? We have our little boy and for the last few weeks a breeder that apparently works in the same building that i do, has been asking me to let our boy mate with his female. He's only 10 months and just about 6 and a half pounds, but we've never done this before and i just don't know if we should. I cazn't find any info only about the breeder. |
I had several people proposition Zeus as a stud and I always said No. I would find out more info on this breeder. JMO.. |
I appreciate your concern! Besides the typical behavior change in his personality after breeding that you may not appreciate.. all breeding Yorkies should be health tested for genetic health problems, as well as knees and hips checked. You wouldn't want to pass on an unhealthy trait to puppies. Study the YTCA Standard so that you know that the Sire and Dam at the very least, have the appearance of what a Yorkie was meant to look like. So many people come on here wondering if their Dog is even a Yorkie. By breeding to Standard, there is a much better chance of a Yorkie actually looking like a Yorkie. You should also know the background of both Sire and Dam to make sure that you are not doubling up on faults or traits in a line that could be passed on to the puppies. Breeding is so much more than putting two Yorkies together for cute puppies. With breeding comes a responsibility to produce the very best, healthiest puppies that you are capable of... even for pets. You might find out from the breeder what her intentions are, and that she is doing the right thing for the breed and her future puppies. If she isn't, she'll probably breed anyway.. but you will not have contributed to the problem. IMO |
Great post Deb! May I add that if your boy is only 10 months old and is already 6 1/2 pounds he will more than likely be way out of standard. (too heavy) I don't know what the age of a male should be for studding but there are guidelines for the female. |
Besides the obvious things of health testing (remember anything that goes wrong genetically is always blamed on the stud), and making sure that your dog and the female are good representations of the breed. There are your responsibilities of being the stud owner: Are you prepared to assist in the whelping? Do you have a stud contract? A contract should be in writing and iron clad. How much to charge for a stud fee? Are you aware that you will be conducting the breeding and keeping the female in your home until the breeding is done. Are you familiar with how to conduct a breeding? Are you prepared to take any pups that aren't sold and possibly take back any pups that have been placed but, returned and the owner of the female can't. |
I would say no, you shouldn't. Is this your website? Westchester County NY Dog Pet Store Rescued Puppies For Sale |
What about brucellosis? Shouldn't she make sure the female doesn't have that? |

But, since my studs aren't for public use!!!!! What I do worry about is my girls harboring an infection that can be detrimental to the litter. So, a vaginal culture is always done as soon as she comes into heat. |
I hadn't had my little girl home for a week before my neighbor was suggesting we breed our two yorkies. Her yorkie is 6 years old and really doesn't even look like any yorkie I've ever seen. She said I could make up the cost of my dog. There is NO WAY I would ever put myself or my precious pup through all that and no amount of money that's worth it to me. Neither one of us would know what we were doing and plus, I signed a spay agreement. So I politely said that I had signed a spay agreement and would not be able to do this. I'm glad I had an easy out because it's ridiculous how people just think well - we'll breed these two dogs and make some money. No way. I'm pretty sure it just is not that easy. I've seen the miracle of birth once and that's enough for me! Just say no!:) |

I have an easy out too.....anyone asks for my studs, I say you have to clear it with my breeder, since she controlls that part of them.....real easy. |
Aren't you all ready abreeder? You had an add here on YT about silky/yorkie pups? in your history files. ??? |
It appears that this person is a broker? Owner of a business called "Urban Tails" that specializes in medium and extremely small breeds and designer dogs..."hand selected" from breeders and then resold...a business staffed mainly by 'volunteer teen workers.' |

OMG!!!! Why would someone pretend NOT to be something they are??? Wonder what the point was to come on here and ask if they should stud out their dog?? Such game players!! |

The website is the worse of the worse...saying they are rescue when they are selling for mass breeders. I wish places/people like this could be shut down. They should be turned into the Attorney General. This is fraud! |

I saw that....went back and read where she was looking for a reputable breeder, looking for a puppy, then saw this puppy for sale.....then asking about studding.............. Misty, hats off to you. |
Appears she wanted to find out the ins and outs of the reputable breeding world.... She hasn't been back on since Nov 3rd at the time of her starting this thread..... Don't know if it'll do any good but, can we have Admin Bann her? |
Add to that this person is a licensed pet dealer with the state of NY. New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets |
Good Job Bama All those posts , first looking for a puppy, then selling and then asking about breeding all the while she's got access to yorkie puppies and such. HUH! Love to have some answers here. |

Maybe I'm a bit bitter over her slanderous remarks over how cruel we are to dogs in the south. New York, New York: New Pups for ADOPTION - Free Classifieds Ads at CLIQS.COM Yes, yes, because apparently we are the only part of the US where dogs are euthanized...in case you didn't know. Geez. |
Wow! Good job. |

This one is no better...apparently she spins her "horror stories of the south" for donations too...$16K? For a business making profit off of selling rescues? Dog Costumes,Dog Clothes, Diamond Collars - The Diamond Collar Dog Blog How convenient. Apparently they do alot of business under the guise of being a rescue. Hmm...wonder how many of those rescues end up bringing them $$$ in the door.... http://www.recycledpaws.webs.com/ |
