Mary, why would anyone need to use 3 kennel names?

Dee, you know it looks like a lot of the old time show/breeders are mentoring or at least letting people purchase some their CH dogs. I thinks it's a way to continue their lines. Most of them are getting on in age and it sure would be a shame if their fabulous lines ceased to exist. I just hope that they're using good judgement on those that they're entrusting their lines to.

In some transactions a breeder/exhibitor will sell a dog for the price of a show dog, but will have another price tacked onto it if the new owner wishes the breeder to finish it. Several exhibitors are doing this.

As with our breeder, who is getting on in years. I know there are conditions/provisions that she has made for the dogs. Some have people that they have mentored continue their lines.

Then there are others that have made provisions to spay/nueter and place them in wonderful pet homes.

Jay Amon/Montclair the name died with her. There are a few dogs out there with the Montclair name, but they are the last of the line. Johnnie Robinson's line went with him.

Well there is a very old time breeder that did a variation on her kennel name. The skuttle butt is that the dogs she really promoted she put such and such kennel name on them and the dogs that just weren't up to snuff, in her opinion, she put the other kennel name on them.

The puppy that i saw was most definately a $500. baby, its new owner said the living conditions were absolutly filthy. and it did not look like the girl advertised that you liked. just take your time until you find someone that you feel you can trust. there are still some good people left
If you are looking for one to show i am sure that you can find a good show breeder on YT or if you are wanting a beautiful pet they can be found here to. I bet someone pm's you

I am not a show person but if i were younger i would give it a try, like some others on YT i raise a few litters a year and i have dogs from very good lines. no puppies at this time except one 2day old male

Thank you for letting me and others who were also looking into this breeder know what to really expect. And there are great breeders out there. I'm confident I'll find my little girl. :p

Good Luck finding your baby girl! If you're wanting a pet, I think $2500 is a little high. That's more like a Show Prospect price. Micah (Betty) Thank you for posting about the living conditions of the $500 pup... Storybook has contacted me in the past for Show Prospects.

You live in the Midwest....and yes for quality pet there $2,500 is a bit high. However, East and West Coasts.....pretty much on the button from a reputable breeder, maybe a bit lower but, not much.

Just out of curiosity, would it be considered reputable if you let a puppy go around 12-14 weeks as a show "prospect" BUT held the registration papers and had the person pay "pet price" until the puppy was 6-8 months of age and could be better evaluated? Then at that time if the pup was determined to be show quality, the buyer could pay the additional amount and receive the registration papers (and receive a new show contract and what not). If not, the buyer would be required to spay/neuter and provide proof, then receive registration papers, or return to the breeder to have them do the same. I am new to all this so just wondering.

Not usually done that way. It's up to the breeder to do the evaluation and it should remain in the breeders house to be evaluated on an ongoing basis. There are other things to insuring a dog is show, that are the breeders responsibility. You don't begin training a dog at 6-8 months of age....it begins slowly as early as 8 weeks, with each pup in a litter getting the same training....until the pups are old enough to begin evaluation, usually the temperament is the first thing one begins with. By the time a person obtains a show dog, it is pretty much table trained, lead trained and the coat has already begun to be cultivated. It's not about the money, it's about our and the dogs reputation......they should be ready to go, other than the final test; how they take to the ring.

Not something I would agree to. If I was purchasing a Show prospect, that's what I would want. Why would someone want a possible pet, if they were looking for Show Prospect in the 1st place? I would be quickly looking elsewhere!

Thank you both. I will keep looking then. I am having trouble finding the best breeders out here. I might have to venture down the west coast to find the right mentor. ;)

There are great breeders up where you live.

Are you looking for a show dog? If so, how far along are you in your search? Are you new to the show world?

If your answer is yes. It's not the difficulty of not finding good breeders where your are, as there are many and many that I know on personal basis. The difficulty is that they will not release a show dog to a newbie.....it just isn't happening. Too many of these reputable breeders have been burnt in the past, their lines placed in hands where the only intention was to breed, they had no concern for the years of perfecting a line.

Hi, new to YT. I'm Princess Gucci's mom. I found a beautiful Yorkie at Story Book Yorkies. My husband bought it for me for Valentines Day. I had looked a lot of places and by far this little girl was a princess. She was by far the best I had seen and wanted her the first time I seen her. And had to have her when I seen her in person. Betty, the breeder, welcomed us into her home. And u could tell she adored and loved her Yorkies. It was a very pleasant experience to deal with her and purchase this princess. We loved that she was a Christian woman. She was very honest and trustworthy. She takes exceptional care of her babies. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a high quality Yorkie. :):thumbup:
