Not exactly a Yorkie, but hey :) 3 Attachment(s) I'm doggy sitting this little girl, and she's due any day now! I'm a little worried since her due date was supposed to be yesterday, and still no signs. I checked her temp and it's at 99.2, last night it was at 99.6. She's a little camera shy, i take out the camera, and she goes on her back, she even tried to hide her face in one of the pics :D |
I wouldn't be too concerned about being just one day over her due date. Due dates are usually just estimates and it's common to go a bit sooner and days later. The temp readings seem to show that she's getting ready, but I've seen some here on YT that go up and down for days before whelping. How long are you doggie sitting? Do you have any experiance with dog whelping? There are many here that will help you if you need it when the time comes (including myself). When she starts, just hop on here and ask away; someone's usually around no matter what time of day or night. Good luck to you and the little mama! |
I have a friend close that breeds yorkies. She's helping me out, but I'll probably come on here when she does have the puppies. Buttercup's had two litters before this one, so I'm sure she knows more than I do. I'm watching them for a friend of mine until January. They relocated, and had to move in to an apartment for 6 months or until they are able to find a new house. |
Just from the picture it looks like she is still carrying them high. Do you know how many times she was bred and what the dates were? It is possible that a later breeding took and she might still have a few days to go. I pray everything goes well for her. |
I'm not sure. I called and she said she might be a week off with the dates. So hopefully that's what's going on. I'm still a little worried because i can't feel puppies moving. Don't know if I'm feeling for them wrong or?? |

Well, her temp's dropping. It was at 99.1 earlier, i just checked it again and it's at 98.8. I was able to feel the puppies, but very faintly. |
Do you have a whelping box ready for her? |
4 Attachment(s) Yeah, we had two dressers we were going to throw out, so i took them apart, and put them back together. She doesn't seem to like being in it though :( but i made a little cubby for her to one side, so she has some privacy, but i can still get in there for when i need to get to her. What do you think? |
I'm glad you are going to have help with the whelp. Good luck. |

Puppies are born 63 days from the day they ovulate, not the day they are bred. So if she ovulated after she was bred...she will deliver more than 63 days from the first breeding. Best of luck! |
Temps can be so frustrating, even if you write them down sometimes it isn't obvious when the dip comes. Here is a link that has a temp chart graph. This breeder says labor starts when the temp is around 98.2 or below. Our Sofia had been all over the place with temps, but when I put it on the chart I saw there was no real "drop" until later. It made me feel better. Good luck. www.debbiejensen.com/signs_of_pegnant.html |
Good luck to you!! I'm glad you're helping your friend out. As far as any advice, I don't have any experience with this:( Keep us updated, She's so adorable and yes she is camera shy:) |
I couldn't get the link to work :( I don't know about the temp, two days ago it was at 99.6 yesterday it went from 99.1 to 98.8, and this morning it's at 98.3. So hopefully she's getting closer... We'll see... |
I have seen on YT bitches that have ran low temperatures for a whole week or longer. Also keep in mind that if the females is not eating well or as not eaten recently the blood sugar can drop and that will cause a lower temperature. |

There is a printable version of the chart on her site. |
Well, i guess she was REALLY off on the dates then. I'm definatly feeling movements now, and can even see the little buggers kicking and doing summersalts in her tummy :jump28ib: Is gas normal?? cuz she really has some stinky ones! fewwwwy.... I also noticed today that she was producing milk, and she has a clear mucusy discharge from her vulva... I'm so excited! Can't wait for the puppies!! I get to keep one of them :2puppy: for watching them for her. I'm hoping they'll all be nice and healthy... I've been trying to do all I can for her. This morning her temp was at 97.4, but it went back up to 98.4? |

her whelping box is in our room, a few feet away from our bed. I'll be up with her anyways just to make sure she's ok. She usually just flops on her belly in front of the food bowl munching away, today she's going back an forth just nibbling a little bit here and there. I haven't noticed her digging... |
Have you felt her belly get hard at all (contraction)? |
Sounds like you are real close to having puppies. Good luck. |
Well, she started "digging" she seems kinda restless too, she'll lay down, then walk a couple steps, and sit, and walk a couple more steps, and sit again, then walk, and lay down... Haven't really noticed contractions? |
yay it sounds like puppies are coming!!! :D |

Some dogs don't have too much preliminary behaviors. A little digging and then they start pushing. Watch her closely...and good luck. |

Good Luck! I hope everything goes smoothly! I'd be a nervous wreck. |
Any news or puppies? |

Sometimes taking them for a short walk will help things along. I mean just a short walk at her own pace. I walk back and forth in front of my house on the sidewalk a couple times. Our vet likes them to move around a little if they can. It can help puppies move down into position. Did you try to feel any contractions as suggested above? |
