Stud question Ok so don't ask why i thought of this when I was taking a shower but it did come popping in my head. Say you only have a female and you want to breed her but you don't want to own a male. How do you choose a stud? How is the process handled? Whats the asking price or negotiation? Is it a fee and pick of the litter w/ unlimited registration? Is it also a pedigree evaluation also? I'm no way wanting to breed that is why I said I have no idea why i even thought of it especially when I was taking a shower. Its just a question i do not know the answer to and would like too. |
Well, I have started studding out my little male and what I do is I amle the person with the female dog pay me $150 after they tie up and then when she has her litter of puppies i give her $150 back and I get the pick of the litter...if for some reason the dog does not get pregnant I give her $150 back. And if someone calls and wants my stud I always make sure he is smaller than her. But, I am just getting started doing this, but this is the way I plan on doing things! Good luck on finding your perfect stud! |
If I wanted to use an outside stud, I would want the stud to be the best possible representation of the breed. I would like to see what he has produced and he would have to be a show qualitiy stud. I would look for a stud that would compliment my bitch and improve points that need improving. (topline, rear, movement, etc) Pedigrees of both dogs would be nece to look at too. I would want to know about health issues like LP, LS, etc. The owner of the stud sets the stud fee and boarding fee. All transportation is up to the bitch owner. The owner of the stud will require health clearances and usually will only breed a good representation of the breed/show quality bitch. The bitch is always taken to the stud. Usually she stays there for a week while she is in heat and ready to breed. A return service is usually done at no extra charge if the bitch fails to be in whelp. |

Brucellosis is a bacterial disease that can affect any organs of the body. Brucellosis is not very common in the United States with 100-200 cases reported every year. |
I would love to know more about this!!! I have two very small children and would love to know more!!! How much does the tests costs...and if they get the test and it is neg. how do I prevent them from getting this? |

I think this site explains what Canine Brucellosis is pretty well and what the symptoms and consequences are. http://www.wildsidekennels.com/artic...ucellosis.html All dogs should be tested for this before breeding (even if it is their first time because they can be born with it if mom was infected). Better safe than sorry Another article that also explains testing http://www.beaglesunlimited.com/beag...rucellosis.htm More info http://agr.georgia.gov/vgn/images/po...%206-13-06.pdf |

In response to your original question: I know that when breeders are looking for a stud they should be looking for a 100% healthy, excellent example of the breed. They are also looking for a dog that will compliment their female...one that matches up well with their female. You have to look at the strong points and faults of both dogs and try to determine what type of puppies they will produce. You can't just put any male with your female...you've got to find the right match to try and get the best puppies possible. You should also research pedigrees...you want to learn what is behind the male and female. So far as other arrangements..fee, etc..I think that varies a lot. |
bad thing was it was only a question not a red flag thrower that i want to breed.. ppl need to learn not to cause drama and open their mouths privately when they didnt read the whole thing.. |

I must have missed something.... Anyway, try not to worry...you clearly stated that you had no intentions of breeding. |
I guess I missed it too...I haven't seen anything bad said unless you got pm's....you said you weren't breeding. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
No they went straight to kimmie about it. So thanks for making her worry ppl and question my purpose with Coco.. |

It has nothing to do with trust and knowing someone the fact that kimmie worries so much about her babies and how they will live and their lifestyle that she will worry.. Up till now I dont think she worried about Coco.. Once again i've never thought of breeding coco or any dog for that matter. Its not what I want to do if ever.. Especially not with coco.. Come on now she's barely 2lbs and some change. I want to live my life with my baby not kill her or jeopardize her.. I don't want to breed I just had a question. |
Don't worry about what people say...All you did was ask a question! :) |

stud service Stud service works many ways. Most have a set fee, average is about $400/$500 for a non-champion, $750/$1000 for a champion, depends on several factors...paid at the time of the last breeding..you are buying a service, not a litter...same as a human going to a sperm bank. Some ask for litter pick, not wise for the bitch owner and that is a mighty high stud fee IMO, never had a show breeder ask for a litter pick from me.....but there are no rules set in stone..no laws...just so each agrees and writes a contract so there are no forgotten agreements. I have had some offer a litter pick and I took them...but if there was a change of heart or one puppy, they could pay the fee if they wanted to keep all the puppies, or there was only one girl or small one they wanted... Finding a reputable, ethcial breeder with healthy studs is another story all together...always get referrals from other breeders, vets, etc you trust... |
Well I never answered the question LOL...but in all seriouness...if the breeder trusts you and you trust her then this thread shouldn't be any worry. You just asked a question and some answered it. You stated it was just an inquiry so there should be no worries from the breeder nor you. Don't make it into something that it isn't. Ignore those that took it to a place it shouldn't have gone especially if you know you are doing the right thing and your breeder knows the same thing. When you post on an open forum sometimes you run the risk of opening up a can of worms. You have to be a strong person to handle those that can't mind their own business unfortunately. Donna |

Look....it no secret there are always drama starters and people that look thru threads to try and stir the pot. Dont let it get to you....and ask WHATEVER question you want...no you may not be breeding or thinking about it even...maybe someone is tho and learned something from your question...Both my babies are altered, so I am not looking to breed either but I learned form this.....I appreciate you asking and you have every right to ask away!!! Yt is supposed to be informative which i think it is dont let bullies or anyone else get you down!!!:D :D Take care! |
