I agree but we have many people who think they are experienced breeders after only a few years and a few litters. I guess my question would be and I know this would be tough to answer is, what would be the qualification for a experienced breeder?

We are not planning on implementing any of these specific ideas but will need to do something if these posts and threads continue the way they have been. These are just some suggestions we have had from members who are frustrated and angry, rightfully so.

It is my hope that people will think before they type and provide thoughtful experiences and insight into breeding.

Oh I agree and I am very concerned with some of the posts from inexperienced people in a wide range of topics. I think it is great people ask questions but YT should not be the only place people do their research. There are many fabulous books where people can learn if they really want to.:)

Yes but most of the time there is also the experience breeders that are the ones that are rude and speak out without thinking. It's mostly breeders against breeders. Or breeders talking down to people that seek knowledge.

But still It's as if breeders are being the one that is being put down and discourage to be here anymore. Which, if you read previous threads, is not the case. It should be for breeders/otheers to come down on the way they say things and put their words. because looking back at old threads you can see that they, breeders are the ones that end of feeling so strongly on a topic.

Why not just tell people to don't post if you don't have anything positive to say, at all, on someones thread or face the consequences? You're making it seem that 'experience' breeders are being put down and they are not wanting to be here because of it. which is not the case at all. They are frustrated, that's all. Many others are frustrated also, but you're not mentioning them. Are breeders the only people that matter in this section?

:thumbup: I agree. I think things should just be said nicer. I think people need to know the 100% truth and things that could happen if something isnt done right. People NEED information. However, it should be polite. Not one person has answered the question of "Why cant you just say it nicely?". The only responses have basically been "I dont have to talk nice if I dont want to, and you cant make me". :( I wish that everyone could just be mature about it all. It would be a benefit to all.

I must agreee 100%!
I know there are some very inexperianced persons that come here with females ready to whelp, seemingly to not have prepared at all, but that does not mean they need lectures or bashing from us. They need help. Plain and simple.
And you are right, we not only lose new new members to Yorkie Talk (who might have become donating members at some time), but we also lose (have lost) some long time members that will be sorely missed.
So fellow YT'rs, if you see a thread asking/pleading for help, and you can't simply do that, help without the criticism (nicely put or not), then live by the rule my mother always taught me; "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." A good rule to live by.

Maybe you should just do it like other sites where they edit out the offensive parts of the post but leave the rest. The world is not all sunshine and lollipops. This topic will always bring about heated debate. What one person thinks was rude another thinks was straight forward and to the point.

Kim - Thank you so very much for another reminder. It is so very sad that a group of adults with a common love can't be nice to one another and share information.

Many people who stumble upon YorkieTalk have an immediate need for help. That is not the time for lectures about what should have or could have been done. That is the time to embrace the new member and offer what help we can. After the crisis is over then is the time to try and gently educate. I don't think that I would be willing to listen to someone, no matter how knowledgeable they are, if they were rude to me or made snide remarks in a thread I started asking for help. Those who can't or won't be educated -- well there is nothing we can do to help them or the plite of their Yorkies. Some of the most outspoken posters in this thread have no breeding experience, and a multitude of silent readers have a wealth of knowledge, but refuse to post. The sad thing is -- we all can learn from each other if we would quit trying to be right all the time and open our minds and hearts to the ideas of others.

I also agree one hundred percent. I don't care how much "book learnin" you have about breeding, you don't really know anything until you have torn that first little sac off a puppy's face and maybe even helped breath air into it's little lungs. So many people try to help but give wrong advice. i know I am a breeder, but I am still learning with each litter. When I run into a problem or need help, I go to one or two of the older more established breeders that don't post on these threads anymore because of the way things happen. And many times myself, I have tried to help someone new only to be undermined by someone that doesn't have a clue. That is what is so frustrating. That and the people that won't take anyones advice even after they ask.

I agree but it doesn't hurt for someone to read and understand the basics when it comes to breeding from a book or the internet before they start breeding. I certainly wouldn't want a doctor operating on me that hadn't opened a book:p .

Im pretty new here, but I have to say that this topic happened to me on my very first post. Made me feel stupid and I was afraid to post again. But, for the snotty comments i got, I also got alot of really kind words and help. Lets not let the "bad apples" spoil the barrel. So thanks from the new kids Kim!
