| Wow Thanks for the post. I never imagined how lax some states are about the treatment and care of animals. I feel animal abuse should be punished the same as human abuse. |

| Excellent article!!!! For members that live in these states and are opposed to animal cruelty they can start sending letters to their lawmakers. Idaho, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Dakota have weak laws

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thank you for posting this, it is a good article. I was surprised to see Hawaii on the list, bc don't they have very strict laws about bringing in pets. I would have thought they were on top of animal care laws. For once OK didn't make one of these not so good lists, I'm shocked!

| My guess is that Hawaii is only tough because of the dogs bringing in critters that could harm the pineapple industry... Oklahoma didn't make this list because they have laws in place but it would appear no one is enforcing them. I am a believer that people get used to seeing abused and don't even know it is wrong. These 5 states should be ashamed of themselves and I hope changes can come about..

| I read through the article. I am from KY and I know that in the past year or so there have been MANY cases of animal abuse and I think the public is seeing that KY law is lax. I know that there have been a few things trying to be passed (not sure of specifics). I didn't know (found this out by reading the article) that in KY, vets could not report suspected abuse/neglect, etc... which is stupid if you ask me.

| Unfortunately, I personally know people who abuse their animals. I know people who dog fight. I am very embarrassed to say this. They know I am completely against it and I have expressed my views of how disgusting it is. However, there is nothing I can do. I can't report them b/c 1. owning the dogs themselves is not a crime and 2. they will not share specifics when they are "gone for the weekend" - which I obviously know is for fighting somewhere b/c I think they have fears of me actually reporting them. Heck yes, I would... in a heart beat. Even if it includes family members and potentially destroying many relationships in my family.
