Okay, I don't know, maybe someone else knows more about this topic, but I think that gas anesthetics are supposed to be safer for small dogs, not injectable anesthetics. My vet uses a gas like Isoflurine, I believe...He is able to wake up very quickly after they stop the gas....
There's no need to keep them intact. Neutering is important, but I suggest you talk to your vet about using a gas like that or a different vet who has more experience with small animals. Good luck!! Sorry, I'm not much help.
