I really read the opinions/reviews on line and model comparison. I was sort of thinking I wanted the ball (DC 15) but decided on the newest DC 17. Here is the basic difference: "

I was unsure about ordering a DC 15 without trying out the "ball" -- although it is suppose to make maneuverability easier. I thought maybe since the newest version went back to the "wheeled" type, maybe that was telling me something. I wish I had known someone with the ball to make sure. I wanted to go with Best Buy because I had a great coupon, it was on sale and I will get rewards bucks back after the purchase too. So, I got a really good deal.
I think all of their versions are very close to the same. A few minor details different. Hope you love the one you pick too!
