My mixed breed dog has a tumor growing from her gum, the vet said it did not look like cancer so just to watch it and make sure it doesn't bother her. She did not want to do surgery at this point because she didn't think it neccesary yet.
Try not to worry, most of the times we think the worst and it never is.
I'll say a pray for youall.
