Since he's very troubled, perhaps he needed to see your daughter and her friend, to talk, to see a friendly face? Maybe find out what he was doing there. I'm sure it wasn't for booty, with two of them there.
I know it's not acceptable for a boy to be sneaking into the house at that hour, but there could have been a very good reason why. Do you know his mother? Maybe things are really awful at home and he had to get away right then, and your house was the only place he had to go? I'd hold off on telling his mother until you find out more. She might be the reason he was out that late
