As a groomer I can tell you that I charge 40 dollars a hour for dematting a dog. But I will only do it once for some one as I believe that if an owner can not handle the coat, she does not deserve one. And the dog sure doesn't deserve to be dematted over and over. No matter how gentle you are it is not the best thing for the dog. So I give them one time and that is it. Depending on the quality of coat you want when you are done will determine the time you invest in dematting. If it is just a pet, loosing a bit of coat in the process is not a bad thing, but a show dog you want to keep every hair you can. There comes a time to know when to say no to some one, when it might cause to much pain and or discomfort to the dog. But some owners think more about the way their dog looks than the discomfort it may go through to be dematted. They should have taken care of it in the first place......

This is just a groomers point of view, I do not like to cause discomfort or any extra stress to any dog no matter how much you want to pay.....
