You may want to consider a puppy kindergarten class. I participated in a class where another lady brought her german shepard, (btw, he was the BIGGEST student there), who acted the same as your dog. They actually had recess during class and instead of playing with the other pups, he'd stand at his owner's side and bark. Sometimes it looked like he was trying to hide behind her. The trainer's had her constantly repeat "no bark" and reassure him. By the end of the classes, (6 weeks), he no longer cowered or bark at the other dogs.
Perhaps if you tried holding your dog in your lap, reassure her, and let the other dog and her sniff each other, she'd realize it's ok. |
