I'm afraid it's too far down to cut the nail off. It's actually bent to the side (much like when a human bends their nail back), and torn a bit. He keeps licking it, and it looks like it's just hanging by a little bit, but I don't want to take the chance that we cut it, and it starts bleeding like crazy. We can't afford *another* emergency vet fee - Rex has had some health issues, and his vet totals this year are almost $3000 so far!

We finally got him to stand still long enough to take a good look at it, and it is bent and torn in the dark part of the nail, so like I said, we just don't want to take the chance that it will start bleeding tonight. I can go in late to work tomorrow, and just run him by the vet first thing in the morning.
