Sounds like going to the Michigan Vet Hospital is going to answer all your questions. I would go along with whatever they say and believe they know what's best for your little dog.
Even if people here have had similar problems, none of us would know as much as the doctors you are going to have seeing your little dog. I think you are fortunate that you can take advantage of such modern, state-of-the-art diagnosis, and care.
