In my girl's case she's stays indoors alot and ticks are only bad around here if ya go into the woods or something, I also try to make it a habit to treat the yard with them flea/tick sprays as well, but we almost never have had ticks on our dogs before. I'm usually pushing her around in her stroller or carrying her in her bag/carrier too. I hear rose geranium oil is good to repel ticks naturally. You may want to give that a try
