For up to one year. What genetic condition shows up in under a year. The only one that I know of is liver shunt. Have your dog tested for LP now. I would be proactive on this. As you said, maltese and yorkies share a lot of the same conditions. If you can get your vet/breeder to admit or find LP in this dog, then he should be covered. LP surgery is at least $1000 per knee.

Of course, I don't see why the vet would diagnose the dog as anything other than 100% healthy, seeing as if she did say she found something, she'd have to treat it for free.
