I was feeding wet mixed with dry too. When going to just dry I did something similar, but instead of picking it up I just left it out and she eventually ate when hungry. A little different than picking it up since if you pick it up and she gets hungry she won't have anything to eat. But I would definitely listen to what your vet days. I was also getting tired of wasting food when she wouldn't eat the wet mixture which is why I switched to dry only.
