I do prefer a food w/ less grain and corn in it, which is why Royal Canin isn't one of my faves.
Wellness Core is a nice food, imo, and it may be worth a try for you.
I doubt his scratching is from his food, especially if he is a puppy...puppy's don't really get allergies, per se, bc of the stage of their immune systems at that point.
