Default New Mommy, lots of questions. Help!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and am also a new mommy to a 13 week old pup named Chico. He's been home with us for 3 days and we are using the pet play yard along with his crate for sleeping. During the day we have let him explore the house (living room, dining room and Kitchen) supervised. When we go to bed he goes into his play yard and into his crate when he sleeps, however I am not locking the crate which allows him to come out and use the potty, eat and drink throughout the night. This morning I noticed he peed A LOT. The pee pads soaked through onto the floor and even leaked out of the play yard into the dining room. We have hardwood floors so the cleanup wasn't too bad. Am I doing the right thing by allowing him access to the play yard? Should I lock his crate when he sleeps? He does wake up to eat and drink and use the restroom so I'm not sure if locking him in his crate is the right thing to do. Any feedback would be so greatly appreciated!!!
