It is totally safe to use plain Vaseline, or the generic form Petroleum jelly .
That is what we use when we have c-sections or when regular spay is done ( per our vet order). They can lick and no harm will be done from ingesting it. It also helps the healing process. Of course it has to be a sensible amount.
