I personally don't have experience with Lyme disease, but it is very treatable if caught early. My vet didn't want Katie to have a Lyme vaccine. He said the shot wasn't fully safe, and if Katie caught the disease, it could easily be treated. Usually once a dog is given doxycycline, it responds to treatment immediately. My vet also prefers titers over giving the booster shot. Sometime, but not often, you can see a bulls-eyes ring if a dog is bitten by a deer tick. Deer ticks are very, very tiny and easily missed. I hope your baby gets better very soon and responds quickly to the doxycyline and that there will be no residual pain from it.
