Looks like you can have a MAC or a PC. It boils down to if you have the money to purchase a MAC. If not, a PC is ok too. Just make sure you have the proper antivirus and such. When I was working on my masters, I purchased a PC to save money. However, when this old PC goes out, I will get a MAC next time around. I love my iPad but still have to have a laptop to do Powerpoints and such. Good luck!!
