That's a huge temperature drop. When I wrote my last post, I didn't want to scare you, and I'm not trying to now. A dog's temperature is normally between 101 and 102.5 degrees, so 96 degrees is very low. It happened once with Kiwi where her temperature went down to 97.5, and I knew then that she wasn't going to get better. We had been treating her for congestive heart failure. Please don't think that I mean that Calli is seriously ill but I just think you need to tell your vet about this. It happened to Ashley when she was sick at the age of close to seventeen (it went to 98.5 degrees). My vet told me that it sometimes happens to older dogs. I had a wedding to go to the next day, but I wouldn't leave my baby My husband was home and would have held her the whole time, but I was too scared and needed to take care of Ashley myself. I kept her warm in a blanket and didn't leave her side. You are such a wonderful mom to Callie, and I know you always take such great care of her. I am confident that you will do everything in your power to find out what is causing the hypoglycemia and her drop in temperature. |
