Thank you everyone for the well wishes and hugs for the Maxman. He is tired and quiet, but he enjoyed his soft chicken breakfast, and his eyes are bright. We will decide tomorrow if we need to follow up with our regular vet.

My understanding is that a true fig tree is poisonous, while the common ficus is not -- our trees don't produce fruit. The vet yesterday said a ficus leaf can cause GI upset, and I have read sources that say indoor ficus trees can be a respiratory irritant to humans . We have had the same trees for 35 years. Although I'm pretty sure that the ficus was not the cause of Max's problem, I would still recommend caution to anyone with dogs and houseplants.
