Default Teddy update

Teddy had a pretty good day yesterday but last night had a flare up. All day he was still a little swollen but nothing like he was on Sunday night. Then last night he looked like he was on fire from his mid belly area down to the inner thighs. He was completely red. He also had two large flat patches of red circular blotches on his shoulder but I think those were from scratching. His swelling was gone and breathing normal so I just gave his dose of benadryl and made sure nothing worsened. This morning, his skin was back to white. He is starting to look like himself, but still looks just terrible. It is so sad

Many have suggested an EPI pen. This has not been a recommendation so far. I will be following up with my regular vet and possibly the dermatologist vet who is an allergy expert to see if there is any way to prevent these types of reactions. But, my understanding is that it's very difficult. I don't want Teddy to live in a bubble but it is very scary.

If I had benadryl on hand I would have given it. I do have to be very careful in this dog as he is an Epileptic. I would rather take my chances to get to a vet than to mistreat my dog. I am not a veterinarian and I want a veterinarian to make the judgment on the treatment. If I lose him to this line of thinking, that is a risk he and I will bear. I try to make very sound decisions for my dogs and am swift at responding to even subtle changes they present because I am very in tune with my dogs. No amount of preparation can prepare anyone for every emergency. Teddy is also very sensitive to benedryl - he is on pepcid concurrently.

Now back to what the heck this could be.....the ER vet asked if anything was "new" like fabric softeners, detergents, etc. I said no. Then last night it dawned on me -- I had purchased wool dryer balls to use in my dryer because I have been having some static problems and it's leaving hair on my clothes. The bedding was freshly washed on Sunday night, and this was the first time that we used the wool dryer balls.

Could Teddy be allergic to wool?
