Yes, I agree, if I were too sick to take my dog to the vet, I think I'd be too sick to be online. Guilt is a good emotion, if we are feeling guilty, instead of asking others to make us feel better; maybe we should DO that which would make us feel less guilty.
To the OP, you did the right thing by calling the vet and asking him if this could wait, this isn't something you should ask on an online dog forum, and then expect that no one would be an advocate for your dog.
