Well, it could be food allergies or they could be environmental allergies; often they go hand in hand. This is a bad allergy time of year for my Westie as well.
His vet prescribed him OTC Zyrtech and a prescription, Cortisone Shampoo, which soothes his itchy skin. That, combined, with a food change, has helped his allergies a great deal.
I did notice that he sneezed A LOT yesterday; but still is not having the terrible itchy skin.
I'd probably consult my Vet and consider slowly transitioning to a higher quality food.
