Congrats!

I have the puppy kong, (mind you Harley is maxed out at 3lbs).

I'm not a fan of puppy pads, seeing you don't have your puppy yet, I recommend some research. I use the grid system and it's great. I've posted some info on it I think the thread was called "WIZDOG or UGODOG" as we were chatting about some existing grid products, but I posted some info on how to make your own. It's a lot cleaner and cheaper, and many dogs also have more success being able to go both indoors and outdoors with the grid, whereas some dogs that are peepad trained wont go outside.

As for confinement, it's personal choice. With Harley, he was started on the grid before he came home, and had very few accidents. We crated at night (Harley actually got through 8 hours on his first night home without needing to get up... we were lucky), and then confined to a small hallway for the rest of the day. We started with like a 4x4 area, with his crate, and his grid. Then each week without mistakes we made it bigger, until he had the whole hallway, and eventually his own room. I prefer it that way, just be warned, the less you confine the more likelihood for a back fall in training later on if you increase their play space too fast.

Good luck
