I am so sorry that you had to make this decision... We do it as a kindness to our furbabies, but it is heartbreaking, no matter the situation. I still feel guilty, too... 5 years later. I'm not sure I'll ever completely let it go. The intellectual part of me knows that we did the right thing as he was suffering so, but the emotional part of me feels as though I let them kill my baby. It gets a little easier, in time, to believe the intellectual part a little more.
