Glad you wrote back. He is unable to control his bladder if he is just lounging around and "lets loose". He probably does have some sort of infection but the arthritis could be contributing to the problem. Many dogs are very good at hiding pain and if an owner is unable to detect it, he may be in so much discomfort it is harder for him to control himself. It may or may not be due to one specific problem. Please let us know what your Vet says. I'll bet after he is on treatment, you will have a sweet smelling baby again. BTW, the person on TV who said any dog likes to pee on itself is saddly mistaken. Male dogs "mark" territory but not on themselves.
