Hi Isolero - I went through this problem with my Zeb - who is now nearly 8 years old. He was very hyper and just ate to stay alive basically everything else just burnt away until he reached middle age at 7 last year and he's put on a couple of pounds. He is taller - around 11 inches and weighed 7/8lb but not weighs about 10lb 5.5kg. My other dog Zack wasn't like that. I think it's like some people they just have a higher metabolism.
I used to get people telling me he was too thin and I needed to feed him more (which greatly annoyed me). I even asked the vet several years ago and I was told he was healthy 90% of dogs are obese and he isn't so that eased my mind so when told me he's too thin again they got the quote direct from the vet.
